Man Utd player asks for move away from club after Arsenal defeat

United lost 1-0 on the first day of the season.

A Manchester United player is ‘pushing’ for a move away from the club following his team’s first Premier League game of the season against Arsenal, according to reports.

United lost 1-0 to the Gunners at Old Trafford, but they looked substantially more aggressive and threatening going forward than they did for the entirety of last season.

Ruben Amorim’s team dominated possession and had 22 shots on goal to Arsenal’s nine, but they were unable to equalise after Riccardo Calafiori’s first-half goal.

Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana were among those left out of the team, and most of the post-match emphasis focused on off-the-field issues as well as performance.

Hojlund is drawing loan interest from AC Milan, while Onana’s future must be considered considering that Amorim decided to include Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in the matchday squad.

Harry Amass, a left-back, was also absent.

The 18-year-old took part in United’s postseason tour of Hong Kong in May, but did not appear in any preseason games.

According to BBC Sport, he was withdrawn from the U21s’ National League Cup match against Tamworth in midweek due to an impending loan move.

Amass has been linked with a move to struggling Sheffield Wednesday for several weeks.

The EFL had placed the Owls under a transfer embargo after failing to pay wages for two months in a row.

Several athletes ripped up their contracts and relocated last month.

The embargo was lifted on August 10 after Wednesday settled their outstanding obligations, however they are still unable to pay any transfer or loan fees for new recruits until 2027.

According to BBC journalist Karan Vinod, although an agreement has not yet been struck between the two teams, Amass is ‘pushing’ to join Wednesday and hopes to play regular games this season.

Under new manager Henrik Pedersen, the Owls use a five-defender formation, with right-back Liam Palmer filling in on the left wing for the first two Championship games.

Max Lowe can also play there, but he has started both of those matches as a left centre-back.

Amass, therefore, would certainly gain significant playing time if he moved to the Championship team, which will have a difficult battle to avoid relegation this season.

Wednesday’s bench was entirely made up of under-21 players during their 3-0 home defeat to Stoke on Saturday, with the exception of striker Ike Ugbo, as they frantically try to bring in new players as soon as possible.
