Man Utd make Ruben Amorim sack decision after humiliating defeat by Grimsby

Grimsby Town beat Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United’s stance on whether to split ways with Ruben Amorim was discussed before to the club’s humiliating defeat by Grimsby Town.

Grimsby Town pulled off one of the biggest surprises in Carabao Cup history on Wednesday night, defeating Premier League Manchester United in the second round.

Grimsby led 2-0 at halftime in front of a packed Blundell Park crowd, thanks to goals from Charles Vernam and Tyrell Warren.

As the second half began, Amorim pulled in huge players like Matthijs de Ligt, Bruno Fernandes, and Bryan Mbeumo.

Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee were also inserted as United attempted to get back into the game.

Mbeumo scored his first goal for the club in the 75th minute, giving the visitors hope.

In the 88th minute, Harry Maguire scored from a corner kick to make the score 2-2.

Penalties ensued, and after a protracted shootout, Mbeumo missed his second attempt, sending Grimsby to the third round with a 12-11 victory.

Amorim has now lost their first three competitive matches of the 25/26 season, having previously lost to Arsenal and drawn with Fulham in the Premier League.

Looking ahead, Amorim’s future will undoubtedly be questioned, as the Red Devils show no indications of improvement.

Prior to United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in May, it was reported that Amorim’s job was secure.

The Times reported that United would continue with Amorim regardless of the outcome of the Europa League final.

It was claimed that, unless Amorim resigned, he would be the man to head United in the 25/26 season because his position was ‘under no threat at all’.

However, with United suffering an embarrassment early in the 25/26 season, things could go ugly for Amorim.

Looking ahead, United will return to Premier League action this weekend against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
