Man Utd ‘make official approach’ to sign star forward who was recommended by Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United have’made an official approach’ to recruit a top forward recommended by Ralf Rangnick.

Man United has signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million in preparation for the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils are still looking for fresh players, with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo top on Ruben Amorim’s recruitment wishlist.

A new No.9 is also expected to be a priority this summer, following Rasmus Hojlund’s performance last season.

Hojlund, who cost Manchester United £72 million, scored just four goals in the club’s disastrous Premier League season.

Man United is reported to be keeping an eye on Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Amorim is determined to strengthen his striker options, as the club has recently made contact with Christopher Nkunku’s entourage to negotiate potential transfer terms.

According to French source L’Equipe, no bid has been lodged yet, but Manchester United is interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick, who served an interim role at Manchester United, previously mentioned Christopher Nkunku as a potential transfer target.

Rangnick spotted the 27-year-old while he was playing for RB Leipzig in Germany.

“There was no such [transfer] dossier, and it was never wanted by the club,” he told the magazine.

“That is why we were already talking about players like Josko Gvardiol and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.” “Those were realistic names.”

Manchester United’s board declined to approve the deal, and Nkunku eventually joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

He signed for Chelsea for £52 million.

Ralf Rangnick listed Christopher Nkunku as a Manchester United transfer target when at RB Leipzig. Nkunku’s performance at Chelsea has been underwhelming, with only six league goals in two seasons.

Despite his Premier League form, Manchester United are interested in signing him and hope to do so despite the fact that they do not have any European football to offer.

Manchester United will be without European fixtures next season after finishing 15th in the league.

They also failed to qualify for the Champions League after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final previous season.

Last season, Nkunku scored 14 goals in all competitions, including seven in Chelsea’s successful Conference League campaign.

And he was prolific for Leipzig, netting 70 goals in 172 outings for the Bundesliga club.
