Manchester United has verified that Ruud van Nistelrooy has departed the Premier League club in response to the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new head coach.
Van Nistelrooy, a former United striker, returned to Old Trafford over the summer to serve as Erik ten Hag’s assistant manager.
However, subsequent to the Dutchman’s dismissal last month, he assumed responsibility for the team as interim manager, with the expectation of securing the position on a permanent basis.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils pursued the services of Amorim, the head coach of Sporting Lisbon, and it was promptly announced that the Portuguese would assume the role on November 11. Amorim arrived at Carrington on Monday.
Speculation regarding Van Nistelrooy’s potential inclusion in Amorim’s coaching staff was prevalent from the moment of his employment. This speculation was further exacerbated by his successful, unblemished interim tenure, which included three victories in four games.
However, Van Nistelrooy’s departure from United occurred immediately upon Amorim’s arrival. A club statement issued on Monday evening stated, “Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club.”
In the summer, Ruud returned to the team and has served as interim head coach for the past four matches.
Ruud is and will always be a Manchester United legend.
‘We are appreciative of his input and the manner in which he has approached his responsibilities during his tenure with the club. He will always be warmly welcomed at Old Trafford.
Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also departed, and we extend our best wishes to them for the future.
The complete managerial composition of the men’s first team will be confirmed at a later date.
On Sunday, Amorim expressed his belief that Van Nistelrooy would not be included in his selection, stating, “A legend of the club.” He performed exceptionally well.
I am required to converse with him tomorrow, which is Monday. Then, I will provide a comprehensive explanation. I am unambiguous and will provide you with the truth. We should postpone the decision until tomorrow.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, has previously expressed his aspiration to become the manager of the United team and will undoubtedly be seeking a prominent position elsewhere, as his brief tenure as the Red Devils’ manager has enhanced his reputation.
United achieved a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the Carabao Cup and a 3-0 victory in the Premier League under the Dutchman. They also defeated PAOK 2-0 in the Europa League and drew 1-1 with Chelsea.
