There is a surprise name on the final roster.
Manchester United have added an unexpected member to their Premier League roster for the 2025/26 season.
Teams have until September 12 to submit their squads to the Premier League.
Each team must include eight homegrown players, with clubs allowed to register as many under-21 players (born on or after January 1, 2005) as they like.
United have revealed that their team consists of 21 senior players.
Several stars, including Patrick Dorgu, Leny Yoro, and Kobbie Mainoo, have not been registered since they are under 21.
The squad’s seven homegrown players are Tom Heaton, Dermot Mee, Rhys Bennett, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Amad, with United keeping a spot open in the squad to accommodate the missing eighth member.
However, another player’s inclusion has startled supporters.
Tyrell Malacia, a left-back, has been named to their 21-man squad despite being a member of United’s ‘bomb squad’ throughout the preseason.
The Dutchman was one of five United players who were virtually barred from accessing Carrington until after 5 p.m., when the first-team squad left.
Malacia and the other four players – Jadon Sancho, Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho – were all advised they had no future at Old Trafford and would not be considered for first-team selection before the transfer market closed.
However, although the four aforementioned players have completed loan or permanent deals away from United, Malacia has been obliged to stay put.
A loan move to La Liga club Elche fell through on deadline day, with talkSPORT’s Alex Crook reporting that the defender was not interested in a move to Eyupspor after the Turkish club made initial contact with United.
United can still sell or loan Malacia out because the Saudi Pro League window, his only realistic option until the new year, does not close until September 23.
However, with no evidence of actual interest from those clubs, it appears that the 27-year-old will remain a Manchester United player until January.
As a result, the club and Amorim have decided that Malacia will return to the first squad, albeit it is unknown what role he will play.
Dorgu is United’s first choice at left wing-back, while 18-year-old Diego Leon has been involved in first-team training and pre-season games.
Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot may also switch to the left wing if necessary.
One fan reacted to United’s decision to register Malacia by writing, “What’s the point of adding Malacia into the squad?”
Another person inquired, “How is Malacia still on the squad btw.”
A third wrote, “He’s fifth in the pecking order.” “It does not look good for him.”
While a fourth disagreed, saying, “I’m not mad at this. Dorgu still hasn’t secured the role.”
