Man Utd Fans Fume at ‘Biggest Downgrade Ever’ After ‘Rubbish’ Display vs Tottenham

Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday night’s Europa League final was the worst imaginable result. The outcome is merely the cherry on top of a season that has been incredibly disappointing and means they will end the campaign without any hardware.

With them being ranked 16th in the Premier League, a victory in the Europa League final was thought to be essential to help salvage the campaign in some way. However, they were unable to do so, and the supporters are not happy. Ruben Amorim’s numerous errors during the game have drawn criticism from the supporters, but they weren’t the only ones.

Online, United supporters have attacked a variety of players, but Andre Onana has received the most criticism.

Supporters of United Have Enough of Onana
They have called him David de Gea’s major decline.

Few players suffered as much as Onana, and United supporters criticised him on social media when he underperformed against Tottenham. The former Inter Milan player only made one of his ten attempted long balls and made no saves during the match. In addition, he only made one punt, had a pass completion percentage of only 61% at the end of the game, and received a SofaScore rating of only 6.3.

When David de Gea’s contract expired in 2023 and he was not offered a new one, the custodian was brought in to take his place. However, his success has fallen short of expectations, and many are now calling him a downgrade.

“Has there ever been a bigger downgrade in football than David de Gea to Andre Onana?” a supporter said on X (Twitter). “Watching André Onana in goal for Manchester United makes you appreciate David De Gea even more…” was the simple post made by someone else who felt the same way.

A third United supporter said, “The biggest mistake we ever made as a club was getting rid of De Gea for Onana.” The outcome made United supporters think about De Gea. We can’t continue to act like this.” And the parallels continued. One fourth fan wrote: “De Gea to Onana – the biggest downgrade ever in football history.”

One commenter expressed dissatisfaction with Onana, even if they did not compare him to De Gea: “Another day another Onana mistake.”
