Man Utd announce NINE players are leaving the club as ruthless summer overhaul begins

Nine players will be released by Manchester United this month when their contracts expire, the team confirmed.

As the summer approached, Ruben Amorim’s team faced several contract disputes in both the academy and first team.

Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans, two of those players, had already announced their plans to leave, and Evans, a seasoned defender, had also announced his retirement from professional football.

However, choices regarding the fate of other club players have now been made.

Along with rookie goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk, Victor Lindelof will also be departing United at the end of his contract.

However, the team is negotiating a new contract with Tom Heaton, the third-choice goalkeeper, to prolong his tenure at Old Trafford.

United has released the following men’s senior and academy players:

Lindelof, Victor
Evans, Jonny
Eriksen, Christian
Graczyk, Hubert
Kingdon, Jack
Murray, Sam
Myles, Tom
Nolan, James
Wooster, Tom
Young academy forward Ashton Missin, 18, has also received new deals in addition to Heaton.

Lindelof joined United in 2017, making him one of the players with the longest tenure in the current group.

He only made 16 Premier League appearances during his final years at Old Trafford due to injury problems, and Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim gradually phased him out of the club.

Evans, a former academy product, was recruited back to the team by Ten Hag in 2023 following a nine-year stint from 2006 to 2015.

Originally signed as a squad player, the Northern Ireland international made 23 Premier League games last season and was one of United’s most reliable players.

Due to his own physical issues and the signings and departures of other players, he was only able to make 13 appearances in all competitions this season.

In the summer of 2022, Eriksen also joined on a free transfer from Brentford.

He later made 107 appearances in all competitions, contributing 18 assists and eight goals.

With the futures of their four senior players who are out of contract already decided well before the season ends, United did not release their retained list for the women’s team along with the men’s announcement, in contrast to Arsenal earlier in the week.
