Gianluigi Donnarumma made his Manchester City debut against rivals Manchester United after joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain for £26 million in the summer. All eyes were on the Italian goalie as he made his Premier League debut.
He had a few early involvements without doing anything particularly noteworthy, including a routine stop from Benjamin Sesko, and was able to watch from a distance as Jeremy Doku set up Phil Foden for the opening goal in the 18th minute. In truth, the 26-year-old was just a spectator in the first half, but he earned a round of applause after hitting well from a corner.
After the halftime, Erling Haaland put Manchester City ahead 2-0, scoring sharply after being set up by Doku. Fans received their first view of Donnarumma’s best quality in the 62nd minute, when he did an excellent job to trip Bryan Mbeumo’s shot just around the post at full stretch.
