It has been reported that a player for Liverpool is refusing to sign a new contract, and clubs from the Premier League have expressed interest in acquiring his services.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are all set to expire their contracts at the end of June, which presents the Reds with three significant challenges that they must overcome before the summer arrives.
Real Madrid has shown a significant amount of interest in Alexander-Arnold, but none of the three players have yet reached an agreement on new terms.
They submitted a bid for the right-back prior to the opening of the transfer window in January, but the Reds quickly declined their offer.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that their rivals in the El Clasico, Barcelona, are showing interest in Van Dijk. On the other hand, Salah has been linked with potential moves to either the Saudi Pro League or Paris Saint-Germain.
However, manager Arne Slot has been put in the position of dealing with yet another contract issue.
Football Insider asserts that custodian Caoimhin Kelleher is not willing to sign a new contract at Anfield at this time. This is according to the information provided by Football Insider.
Due to the fact that the Republic of Ireland international will be entering the final year of his contract this summer, both Newcastle and Chelsea are interested in signing him if he continues to maintain his positions.
Kelleher impressed Liverpool fans by making eight appearances in the Premier League earlier this season while Alisson was out of action. Some fans believe that Kelleher may have done enough to successfully usurp the Brazilian as the team’s starting custodian.
However, as a result of Alisson’s arrival, the 26-year-old is once again considered a secondary option, and it would appear that he is currently experiencing thoughts of leaving Anfield in order to pursue a position as a number one custodian elsewhere.
There is a possibility that the Irishman’s task at Liverpool will become even more difficult in the summer, when Giorgi Mamardashvili, a new signing, is scheduled to arrive at Anfield.
In the summer of 2018, the Georgia international player made a transfer from Valencia to the Reds for a fee of £34 million. However, he was later loaned back to Valencia for the entirety of the 2024/25 season.
During the month of October, Kelleher admitted that he had made it clear to Liverpool’s management that he desired to be the best custodian currently available.
During the previous season, he stated, “I played a significant number of times, and if you do well, your valuation goes up. This is because obviously the club is going to want to make a good profit.”
I was adamant that I wanted to play football for the first team, regardless of whether that was here or somewhere else. It was my goal to achieve the top spot.
