The club uploaded a picture and a video of Trent Alexander-Arnold on its official social media accounts, allowing Liverpool supporters to voice their opinions.
After his contract expires at the end of June, Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been strongly linked to a move to Real Madrid. According to recent reports, he is nearing a five-year deal with the 15-time Champions League winners, though neither club has provided an official update on the matter as of yet.
Due to an ankle injury sustained during Liverpool’s Champions League quarterfinal loss to PSG on March 11, the England right-back has not played.
But with his team poised to win their 20th Premier League title, the defender will be eager to go back to play before the season ends.
After the club shared a picture and a video on Instagram and X of what looked to be Alexander-Arnold reporting to training and participating in a marketing campaign, fans had a chance to voice their opinions on Thursday, April 10.
Something like, “Why are you posting Trent????” Come on, guys! Get with the picture!!”
Another said, “If HE wasn’t in it, I would probably watch this.”
A third clarified: “Please get him off the channel.”
A fourth person added, “Please stop making videos with Trent.”
Jamie Carragher, a former centre-back for Liverpool, spoke to Sky Sports last Sunday about Alexander-Arnold’s perception among the team’s supporters.
“Liverpool supporters will be appreciative of what Trent has done on the pitch,” stated Carragher. His legacy will be tarnished in the view of some. You are considered one of the team’s fans when you consider the players who spent their whole career there and declined offers to go elsewhere.
Few players make it through the academy, but he did, and he has been a fantastic player for Liverpool. He has won everything to win. I hope everything works out for him, but I’ll be sad if he leaves.”
Furthermore, come summer, other Liverpool players might depart for nothing, including Alexander-Arnold.
As their contracts come to an end, key players Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are in a similar predicament.
Van Dijk, 33, spoke about the issue following Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
“There is progress,” stated the centre-back for Liverpool.
“We’ll see, but these are internal talks. The club is amazing.
The 32-year-old Salah has scored 27 league goals this season and has been rather outspoken regarding his future. BBC Sport, however, has stated that the 32-year-old is engaged in “advanced negotiations” for a new contract.
