Liverpool ‘planning’ sensational swap deal with Crystal Palace to sign Marc Guehi and it’s pure genius

Arne Slot’s team is seeking defensive reinforcements and may employ a player as a makeweight.

Liverpool intends to give one of its promising young prospects as a makeweight in any potential move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Last season, Liverpool won the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s first season in command after taking over from Jurgen Klopp on Merseyside.

Liverpool made only one addition last year, winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus for £10 million, although it had no impact on their domestic season, as they won the league by ten points.

Slot’s side has continued to enhance the team during the summer transfer window, with three key transfers made thus far in preparation for the forthcoming season.

Jeremie Frimpong was bought from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million to fill the vacuum created by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid.

Liverpool set their transfer record by paying an initial £100 million to Leverkusen for midfielder Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez joined from Bournemouth for £40 million.

The heart of the defence is an area where Liverpool might still bring in reinforcements to supplement Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate’s first-choice duo.

Liverpool also has Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez, although the former has been linked with a move to Leverkusen, while the latter has suffered with injuries.

One of the players who could go this summer is Palace defender Guehi, who is in his final year of contract at Selhurst Park after winning the FA Cup with the Eagles last season.

This summer is the Eagles’ last chance to get a significant fee for the England international, or risk losing him for free in a year.

According to The Sun, Liverpool is considering offering forward Ben Doak as a makeweight in any transfer for Guehi.

Doak, 19, spent last season on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, where he scored three goals in 24 games.

According to the tabloid, Palace is looking for roughly £50 million for Guehi this summer, while Liverpool values Doak at around £25 million, but negotiations would need to take place.

Liverpool signed Doak from Celtic in 2022 and paid the Scottish club approximately £600,000 in compensation due to the attacker’s age at the time.

Newcastle United made a number of approaches for Guehi last summer, the greatest of which was said to be around £70 million, but Palace stayed fast and rebuffed the offers.

The Magpies and Manchester United are reportedly among the other clubs interested in Guehi’s services.
