Although this could work against Chelsea, a Premier League contender, Liverpool is expected to make a “significant offer” for one of their top targets this summer in an attempt to replace Jarrell Quansah.
Anfield’s summer has been quite busy.
Shortly after the news broke that right-back Jeremie Frimpong had signed from Leverkusen, colleague Florian Wirtz also left the BayArena for Liverpool in a club-record move that cost an original £100 million plus £16 million in add-ons.
Despite reports that centre-back Jarell Quansah is in “advanced negotiations” to join Leverkusen, it appears the Premier League winners are nearing a deal with Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who is valued at £45 million.
Liverpool is requesting up to £40 million for the 22-year-old defender, but Sky Sports reports that the two parties are nearly in agreement on a £30 million deal plus £5.5 million in add-ons.
Who will take Quansah’s post, then? According to a story from The Telegraph, Liverpool is reportedly set to make a “significant offer” to capture Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
With one year remaining on his Selhurst Park contract, Guehi may still fetch a high price for Palace.
In January, Palace turned down Spurs’ offer of £55 million plus £15 million in add-ons.
However, given that Chelsea, their Premier League rivals, added a 20% sell-on clause when they sold Guehi to Palace in 2021, it seems Liverpool is in the greatest position to make a move this summer that would benefit Chelsea.
At £18 million, the defender became Palace’s third most expensive acquisition ever.
When Chelsea sold him to the Eagles, they made sure to include a sell-on clause, which, if Liverpool or another interested team bids £40 million, could give them an additional £8 million. This is according to The Mirror.
Along with the aforementioned January offer from Tottenham, Palace also turned down several proposals from Newcastle for the defender.
Speaking about the FA Cup final, Guehi emphasised his dedication to the team and declined to comment on the rumours around his future.
“I believe that always giving this football team my best effort is the most important thing,” he stated. I try to be the same every day when I come in. I make an effort to work hard. I’ve received a lot from this football team, you know.
“I’m still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club.”
He continued: “So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds.”
