Liverpool FC Release Statement as Car Drives Into Crowd During Trophy Parade

Liverpool has issued a statement after a man was detained for clashing with fans in his car during the club’s open-top bus parade to celebrate their Premier League title. The incident was originally reported at 6 p.m., with images appearing showing supporters getting hit by a moving vehicle during the march.

It has since been reported that a 53-year-old white British man has been arrested in connection with the event, with police warning the public not to speculate on the details. There have been no updates regarding the number of people injured. Liverpool, on the other hand, has published their first comment since the news surfaced, criticising the situation and expressing their sympathies to all impacted.

Liverpool Releases Club Statement.
The incident ruined the festivities for the club’s 20th league title.

In a statement issued on their website and social media, the club said:

“We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police about the incident on Water Street that occurred towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this tragic occurrence.

We will continue to provide full support to the emergency services and local authorities dealing with this event.

Everton, Liverpool’s city rivals, have also issued a statement, saying: “Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident in our city.”

The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, also replied on social media, saying: “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling; my thoughts are with everyone who has been injured or affected.” I’d like to thank the police and emergency services for their prompt and continuous responses to this tragic occurrence. I’m being kept informed of developments and ask that we give the police the space they require to investigate.”

The incident occurred the same month that Barcelona’s title-winning triumph over Espanyol was stopped owing to a similar occurrence outside the stadium, with footage obtained of a driver losing control of their vehicle and colliding with many supporters.

Former Liverpool player Neco Williams speaks up.
The Nottingham Forest player is the first player associated with the club to remark on the subject.

Former Liverpool defender Neco Williams has become the first player affiliated with the club to speak out publicly about the situation, taking to social media to say:

“What a scumbag!” What was supposed to be a fantastic day for everyone linked with Liverpool FC has been marred by the actions of an animal. “Prayers for everyone’s safety.”

Chelsea has also posted on social media, saying: “Everyone at Chelsea Football Club’s thoughts are with Liverpool Football Club and those impacted following the horrific incident in the city today,” while Manchester United has added: “Our thoughts are with @LFC and the city of Liverpool after today’s awful incident.”

Jamie Carragher, a club legend, made a short remark to X, saying: “Devastating end to the day………just pray everyone is okay.”
