Liverpool Fans Have Lost It With One Player After Crystal Palace Defeat

Arne Slot’s team did not have a good afternoon against Oliver Glasner’s informed Eagles.

Liverpool fans have singled out one player following their team’s dismal performance in their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 2024/25 Premier League champions went to south London confident in their perfect season record.

Hugo Ekitike was missing from the Reds’ League Cup third round triumph over Southampton on Tuesday after being sent off.

His absence almost pushed Liverpool manager Arne Slot to start record signing Alexander Isak at Selhurst Park, but the Swede had little impact on the game.

Isak’s supporting cast of Mohamed Salah, Florian Wirtz, and Dominik Szoboszlai also went scoreless against Oliver Glasner’s side, who led for the majority of the game thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s ninth-minute strike.

Sarr’s goal was his fifth in eight career games versus Liverpool, and the Senegal international has also provided two assists.

However, Federico Chiesa salvaged a point for the away team on 87 minutes.

And just when both sides believed the game was finished, Eddie Nketiah scored in second-half stoppage time to give the home team a well-deserved 2-1 victory.

Despite Slot’s side’s lack of offensive firepower, fans chastised a defender for his poor performance, despite the fact that he was not on the pitch when the winner was scored.

Many supporters were critical of centre-back Ibrahima Konate’s performance against the Eagles.

The 26-year-old Konate played 74 minutes before being replaced by Jeremie Frimpong as the Reds sought an equaliser.

Fans have spoken out on social media.

A few commented: “Konate is the worst player with the ball in this team, I don’t care what anyone says, but he must go.”

Another added: “Ibrahima Konate either has a streak of flawless games or forgets how to play football and becomes error-prone. There is no middle ground, and it is disconcerting.”

A third explained: “Rhys Williams, put your boots on, man; this Konate is too busy flirting with Real Madrid and running around like he’s wearing Timberland boots. He once again delivered a poor performance.”

While a fourth claimed: “This Mateta dominance over Konaté. All over him in the air, in the broad channel, and during hold-up play. He’s given Crystal Palace a large platform to play on.”

Then a fifth said, “We’ve totally gotten away with murder there.

“We earned nothing from this game. Konate and Bradley are truly the weakest players on the pitch.”

Konate’s contract with Liverpool expires in June 2026, and he has recently been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool return to play with a Champions League away trip to Istanbul, where they will face Turkish champions Galatasaray on Tuesday. On Thursday, Palace will play their Conference League opening in Poland against Dynamo Kyiv.
