On Monday, May 19, Liverpool defeated Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex, setting a new club record.
For Monday’s Premier League match against Brighton, Arne Slot benched players like Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, and Luis Diaz.
As a sea of red in the away end created a party atmosphere on the south coast, bit players like Federico Chiesa, Kostas Tsimikas, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott, and Jarell Quansah filled the hole.
And it got off to a good start when, only nine minutes in, Elliott nudged home Bradley’s cutback.
The 22-year-old Fulham academy graduate achieved a club record in the process.
With Elliott’s goal, the Reds have now scored in all 19 of their away Premier League games this season, something that hasn’t been accomplished by past Liverpool teams.
Only nine times in English football and four times in a league with 20 teams has the accomplishment been accomplished.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal won all 19 of their away games in 2001–02, and the Gunners’ 1930–31 team won all 21 of their away games.
On social media, fans were ready to share their opinions.
“Amazing record,” one said. They have scored in practically every home game, so they just need to score in the final one before this one ends.”
Then someone else said, “Champions for a reason.”
A third person added, “And almost all of our home games.”
During a recent press conference, Slot himself described how his team’s winning away record “means a lot”.
“Yeah, it definitely means a lot to me,” Slot replied. “I was unaware of the precise figures. I brought this up to the players during one of our first away games, and during a team meeting, I showed them their away performance. I believe this is something we need to work on, but it’s not the only thing, if we want to be able to compete for the league in the end.
“That’s what we did really well all season long; we’ve had terrific away performance. However, we have also played well at home. Because there are so many good teams and teams that can win more games in a row, that is the only way to compete in a league like this. Therefore, having both strong home and away performances is essential if you want to win the league here.

As the first Dutch head coach to win the Premier League this season, Slot has already set a record. Following tonight, Liverpool’s focus will shift to their season-ending match against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday, May 25, when supporters will witness Reds captain Van Dijk hoist the Premier League trophy. The following day, the team will parade the trophy through the city’s streets, where hundreds of thousands of fans will be present.
