Lionel Messi Posts Tribute For Diogo Jota After His Death

Lionel Messi is the latest football celebrity to react to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota’s unexpected death. The former Wolves and Porto striker died in the early hours of the morning on Thursday after being involved in a road traffic accident alongside his brother, Andre, in north-western Spain. He was 28 years old.

The football world has been reeling since the announcement, with various teams and Jota’s former colleagues, including Cristiano Ronaldo, expressing their sympathies on social media. And now, one of the greatest players in history has paid tribute to the Premier League winner.

The Argentine posted an image on social media

Messi took to Instagram stories and shared a black and white photo of Jota with the abbreviation ‘QEPD’ above, which stands for the Spanish phrase ‘que en paz descanse.’ This translates to ‘May he rest in peace.’

While Messi and Jota never had the opportunity to compete against each other during their respective careers, the Inter Miami star expressed his condolences and no doubt felt the emotions that football fans around the world have experienced in the aftermath of the striker’s sudden death.

Messi isn’t the only Argentine to respond to the news; fellow World Cup champion and Jota’s former teammate Alexis Mac Allister sent an emotional farewell on social media.

“I just can’t believe it,” Mac Allister wrote. “I’ll never forget your grins, fury, brilliance, friendship, and all that made you a person. It hurts so much, and we will miss you. “Rest in peace, Diogo.”

Other Liverpool stars have expressed their condolences, including Harvey Elliott, Darwin Nunes, and former manager Jurgen Klopp, who brought Jota to Anfield.
