Leicester City is laughing loudest at the £20 million West Ham agreement as surprise news comes.

Former Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen’s future at new club West Ham is already uncertain, only three months after making the £20 million move that will have the Foxes laughing in the bank.

According to Hammers News, the goalkeeper has slid down the pecking order since Nuno Espirito Santo became manager.

It was claimed in the summer that the shot stopper was sold after the two sides agreed on a £20 million cost.

Hermansen was a significant figure for the Foxes, helping them win promotion to the Premier League under Enzo Maresca in 2024.

Prior to his move to London, the Dane appeared 71 times in the league for Leicester, but has only appeared in four of the club’s first eleven league games.

Hermansen received a lot of accolades for his achievements at the King Power Stadium, even though the squad was relegated to the second level after only one season under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

His departure was viewed as a setback by supporters, with the squad now seeking for promotion back to the top division, but his current situation at West Ham demonstrates that they received the best deal from the summer.

West Ham consider Mads Hermansen’s axe

West Ham are allegedly considering releasing Hermansen from the first-team squad after Alphonse Areola emerged as first-choice goalkeeper under Espirito Santo.

Graham Potter reportedly advocated for the signing of the Dane after Lukas Fabianski left in the summer.

However, following a dismal start to the Premier League season, the English coach was replaced by Areola, who is unreliable.

The former PSG player is nearing the end of his career, and it’s tough to envision someone of his current caliber playing consistently for any other Premier League side, demonstrating how little Hermansen is regarded of by his new management.

In that situation, Leicester will be overjoyed to have earned £20 million from the transaction, while West Ham is thought to be experiencing a sudden and intense case of buyer’s remorse.

It is understood that Hermansen is surplus to requirements, with the Premier League club making the decision just a few months after agreeing to sign him from the Foxes, and with only four top-flight outings for the Hammers.

Under Martí Cifuentes, Jakub Stolarczyk has been the first-choice at Leicester. However, due to an injured absence, Asmir Begovic started their recent 2-1 win over Norwich City and has been a strong, if unspectacular, alternative in Hermansen’s place.

Cifuentes’ side is currently 12th in the Championship standings after a run of bad form that has left them four points behind the play-off places, but it is not just the goalie who has contributed to these poor results.

Leicester City done well with the Mads Hermansen trade.

Leicester performed well by selling Hermansen for £20 million, especially given their financial situation.

This sale served to relieve pressure on their books while also giving them a greater chance of keeping some of their more prominent stars.

Players such as Stephy Mavididi, Harry Winks, and Abdul Fatawu remained despite the club’s need to create finances, and Hermansen’s sale played a significant role in this.

It’s been a difficult start to the season, and Leicester don’t have the best choices right now, but the sale was ultimately the right decision. Finally, given Daniel Iversen’s form throughout the Championship with Preston North End, the decision to let him leave for free feels like a mistake in the goalkeeping department.

The fact that Hermansen is now fighting for playing time at West Ham demonstrates that the Foxes were better off cashing in when they did, as they may not have received £20 million at a later date.

West Ham’s buyer’s regret has benefited Leicester.
