Following their contentious 3-2 loss to Real Madrid on Saturday night, Leganes’ tweet went viral. Although the La Liga match was crucial for both teams, 18th-place Leganes may believe they were given unjust treatment as they drew closer to relegation.
Before Kylian Mbappe scored the game-winning goal following a disputed free-kick decision, the contest was set up by a controversial penalty awarded to Arda Guler and a denied penalty claim for Leganes. The outcome was called “daylight robbery,” according to reports following the final whistle, and referee Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes has come under fire for what has been called a “shameful refereeing performance.” View the highlights below:

Despite having played one more game, Real Madrid’s win put them on par with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Leganes’ post, however, reflects their belief that they should have been treated better.
Leganes’ Viral Post Following 3-2 loss To Real Madrid
They have taken a lighthearted approach to the situation

In addition to making light-hearted references to the clocks moving forward on Sunday, Leganes’ full-time post also made a light-hearted punch at their hosts. It made reference to “stealing an hour,” a reference to the shift to daylight saving time. Below is what they put to X (previously Twitter), which is equivalent to the following in English:
Furthermore, they stole an hour from us today as well. Growers of cucumbers, we continue to fight.”
Y encima hoy nos roban también una hora…
Seguimos luchando, pepineros 💪🏼🥒

However, Leganes’ chances of surviving could be far more severely impacted by the loss than they initially thought. They are in danger of being relegated to the second division just two seasons after being promoted as champions after suffering three straight La Liga losses.
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti’s side kept their title ambitions alive, just two days after Barcelona found themselves under scrutiny for fielding an ineligible player during their 3-0 win over Osasuna. Osasuna has asked FIFA and the RFEF for advice as they contemplate taking action against Inigo Martinez, who was at the core of the incident.
