Latest update emerges on Kyogo Furuhashi following his exit from Birmingham City.

Chris Davies has left the door open for Kyogo Furuhashi to leave Birmingham City for an MLS team due to his lack of playing time.

The forward joined the Blues in the summer from French club Rennes, but he has battled to find consistent minutes at St. Andrew’s following a rough stint in France.

The Japan international prospered at Celtic, where he helped the squad win four straight league titles.

The 31-year-old scored 63 league goals for Parkhead before joining Rennes in January 2025.

Furuhashi, however, made only six appearances in Ligue 1 before joining Birmingham following their promotion to the Championship.

He has played 26 games for the Blues, but has only started eight of them, scoring once in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Chris Davies clarifies Birmingham’s Kyogo Furuhashi transfer stance.

Davies has replied to queries about Furuhashi’s probable exit to MLS, whose transfer window remains open until March 26, by stating that he would be open to a transfer if it was what the player wanted.

The Birmingham manager has maintained that he wants the group that is already in place to stay together, but he has left the door open for a prospective move for Furuhashi, who is still hoping to compete for Japan in the World Cup this summer.

“There’s been talk of that,” Davies told Birmingham Live.

“From my perspective, this is our squad, and it will continue this way.

“If something comes up that needs to be addressed, we will absolutely respect the player and everything else, just like we do during the open transfer window.

“In my mind we’ve got our squad, there’s 14 games to go and we go for it from here.”

Furuhashi has dropped lower down the pecking order during the January transfer window, due to the acquisition of August Priske from Djurgårdens IF.

The Dane has yet to make an impression since signing late in the winter transfer window, but he has provided further competition for Davies’ Japan international.
