Latest update emerges on Andrew Nestor following his West Brom exit

West Bromwich Albion’s recent president and sporting director, Andrew Nestor, left the club in recent weeks, and new information has emerged subsequently.

Nestor joined The Hawthorns with owner and Chairman Shilen Patel in February 2024, following the American’s acquisition of the Baggies. However, after earning a play-off spot that season, things have not gone smoothly since.

A ninth-place result was followed by a season that is presently fighting for relegation to League One. Nestor has left West Brom after a string of failures over the course of over two years.

His departure comes after the termination of Ryan Mason as head coach, which came just 14 days after Nestor wrote an open letter on the West Brom website stating that the club needed to “apply patience in our planning to allow the playing and coaching staff to settle”.

He leaves with West Brom are only two points and one spot over the dotted line, with Eric Ramsay replacing Mason, who has lost four and drawn three of his first seven games in all competitions thus far.

West Brom were startled by Andrew Nestor’s decision.

More details on Nestor’s departure from the Baggies have emerged. John Percy of The Telegraph has revealed critical details about his time at the club, as well as the nature of his departure.

First, Percy discloses that Nestor left due to disagreements about the club’s direction. That’s despite the fact that the Americans introduced data technologies to help the recruitment team with signings.

According to the report, he revamped the squad to play a specific style and shape, bringing in more players with leadership and experience to back Mason. Many think that he was responsible for a number of disastrous summer signings.

The most fascinating item is that Nestor’s departure is said to have taken the Albion hierarchy by surprise, with former managing director Mark Miles recently returning to the club.

Nestor’s departure also resulted in transfer transactions in the January window being handled by West Brom’s recruitment chief Ian Pearce instead.

West Bromwich Albion faced their worst league finish since 2000.

Since 2000, West Brom has finished at least tenth in English football’s second level every season, with a high of eighth in the Premier League in 2012/13.

West Brom’s mismanagement, combined with mixed transfer spending and poor managerial appointments, has resulted in a relegation struggle in 2025/26.

Ramsay is already under pressure, as his team is technically in the bottom three in terms of points per game. Leicester City’s point deduction is presently keeping them alive.

The team has only spent two seasons in the third division of English football and has never dropped below that level. If the Baggies are relegated to League One, it will be a scathing indictment of Nestor and his management team.

But that truth is now facing them in the face, as WBA fans accept it. The Charlton Athletic and Oxford United games in the coming weeks appear to be critical to survival.
