The girlfriend of the adolescent has spoken up.
Following the Barcelona player’s failure to become the youngest Ballon d’Or winner in history on Monday night in Paris, Lamine Yamal’s partner has spoken out.
After a treble-winning season in which he scored 35 goals and supplied 16 assists in all competitions for PSG, Ousmane Dembele was the recipient of the night’s top honour.
Yamal was the first player to win back-to-back KOPA trophies, which are given to the top under-21 player annually, so his presence wasn’t entirely in vain.
“It’s an honour to be here again,” the Spanish international stated as he took the stage at the Théâtre du Châtele.
“I would want to thank the national team and Barcelona. My family, too. Not to be overlooked are my colleagues, who are also visible today, such as Raphinha and Cubarsí,” he continued.
When asked if he was prepared for the “big one,” the Barcelona prodigy joked, “I don’t know if I’m ready for the big prize! Perhaps we’ll cross paths later.
Yamal went to the event with a big family, but he didn’t have Argentine rapper Nicki Nicole with him, whom he has been dating in public for a few months.
The singer confirmed the affair on his social media platforms after being sighted with the Barcelona star for the first time in August.
The 25-year-old quickly responded to the outcome on social media, even though she was unable to attend the event.
She wrote’mi te amo’ (‘I love you’) in an Instagram story post while standing next to the 18-year-old.
Yamal defeated Ronaldo Nazario, who was 20 in 1996, to become the youngest player to finish second in the Ballon d’Or.
The Spaniard was Barcelona’s top-ranked player, and the only other Catalan player to place in the top 10 was Raphinha.
