La Liga make major decision after controversial Jude Bellingham incident as Real Madrid ‘threaten to quit competition’

Following the debate surrounding the Bellingham red card, La Liga made a crucial decision.

According to sources, La Liga has taken a key decision on referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero, who controversially sent off Jude Bellingham during Real Madrid’s 1-1 tie with Osasuna.

On Monday, reports indicated that Real Madrid was mulling ‘leaving’ the Spanish league.

According to Spanish site SPORT, Real are considering quitting La Liga and ‘seeking refuge’ in one of three big European leagues: Serie A, Bundesliga, or Ligue 1.

However, such an extraordinary move, unlike anything seen in football before, would require approval from UEFA, FIFA, and La Liga itself.

Los Blancos are dissatisfied with officiating standards in La Liga, despite officials denying prior charges made by president Florentino Perez.

The dissatisfaction reached a boiling point after Jude Bellingham was controversially sent off in Real’s 1-1 draw with Osasuna on Saturday.

Referee Munuera Montero believed Bellingham said ‘f**k you’ straight to him, which if verified may result in a four- to 12-match ban for the England international.

The 22-year-old denied using the phrase, telling reporters that he said ‘f**k off’ to himself rather than the official.

In his post-match press conference, manager Carlo Ancelotti stated, “The red card, he [the referee] didn’t understand English well.” F**k off, not ‘f**k you’. That is where he made a mistake. The translation into Spanish is ‘don’t f**k with me’.

“Two things have happened in these last three games, that everyone has seen. I don’t feel like offering anything else because I want to be on the bench for the next game.”

La Liga has reportedly made a significant decision regarding the Spanish official.

According to Relevo, he has not been appointed to referee any of the ten matches scheduled for the forthcoming La Liga matchweek.

The reason for the decision is unknown, however the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) issued a statement in support of Montero earlier this week.

It read: “The professional referees are completely horrified by the assaults and threats that our colleague Jose Luis Munuera Montero is getting on social media.

“These attacks add to the hatred and verbal violence through which we have to carry out our professional work every weekend, and that in the base categories becomes, even more regrettably, physical violence in many cases.”
