Kyle Walker’s Tattoos Explained – Including Special ‘1178’ England Tribute

One of the largest and most recognisable English football players in the world right now is Kyle Walker. The full-back has played for large teams including Manchester City, Tottenham, and Aston Villa and has represented England in a number of important competitions.

After more than eight years with the Citizens, the six-time Premier League winner decided to leave the Etihad Stadium and is currently on loan at AC Milan. His lightning-fast speed up and down the right flank has always made him stand out on the football pitch.

But Walker is also well-known for the numerous tattoos he has flaunted while performing. The England international’s torso is covered in ink for a number of reasons, including touching homages to football-related locations.

From England tributes to famous stadiums

The former Spurs defender, who recently appeared on The Kyle Walker Podcast, gave an explanation for a number of his football-related tattoos. To start, he mentioned the ink he received in honour of Manchester City becoming the first team in Premier League history to win the title four times in a row: “I got ‘four-in-a-row’ tattooed on my leg.”

City supporters may have been disappointed by what Walker said next, but they will be thrilled by this amazing reminder of the team’s incredible run of league seasons. He did not include the Etihad, but he did list the stadiums he had inked on different regions of his body:

San Siro, Villa Park, and White Hart Lane are all within my reach. Bramall Lane is mine.

“I need to get Sixfields and Loftus Road next.”

The ‘1178’ tattoo that Walker displayed, which is situated just below his kneecap, may have left many football fans perplexed, even if all of these have clear implications for those who have followed his career. Walker stated that as he was the 1178th player to play for the Three Lions, this is his England legacy number. Watch the video below to see the tattoo:

‘He guides me through a lot’

Walker has not only made his body a canvas for his athletic accomplishments, but he has also found plenty of room to honour the people in his life. In an interview with Unscriptd, he disclosed that his first tattoo was actually about himself, for which he received some criticism from his friends:

“K. Walker” was the first tattoo I ever had, and it included a single star on my palm.

“But I got a lot of stick for it from my friends saying ‘well, you are only one star, is that how much you rate yourself?’”

He continued by explaining that some of his other tattoos have deeper meanings: “I got this eye for my grandad, who took me to Sheffield United and got me into football.” He died. He looks down on me all the time and helps me a lot, I got the eye to say.

Walker obviously values family because he has several works of art devoted to his own children as well as an homage to his sister’s deceased child. He continued by explaining:

“I have a tattoo of an angel carrying a baby up here that reads, ‘God acquired an angel.’ My sister also lost a baby.

“Underneath here I have my youngest boy’s birthday and my oldest son’s footprint and handprint here.”
