It’s reasonable to say that the outcome of Russell Martin’s tenure as Rangers manager was above the expectations of even the most hopeful Celtic supporters. It was predicted that the 49ers era would mark the start of something unique for the Ibrox club. Rather, as far, it has been a nightmare. And whether they can find a solution is still up in the air.
Only one of Martin’s team’s seven league games was won. They lost both of their Europa League games thus far after losing to Club Brugge 9-1 in the Champions League qualifying round. And the Ibrox club showed Martin the exit door after a 123-day run.
It is highly probable that he will be remembered as the Rangers’ worst manager ever. He’s definitely in that discussion. That is beyond question.
Now, the Rangers need to figure out how to solve their issues. Who will take Martin’s place? It appears that Kris Boyd has some recommendations. According to Sky Sports, he stated:
“Steven Gerrard is a name that has endured.
Another name that was brought up was that of Frank Lampard. I am aware of the fantastic work he is doing at Coventry City, but is it no longer a factor?
“For me, Sean Dyche is the obvious choice. He has previously collaborated with Kevin Thelwell, and it appears that he has significant influence on the athletes who are recruited.
Kris Boyd’s choice for the next Rangers manager will be adored by Celtic supporters.
In all honesty, if the Rangers were to acquire any of those three, Celtic shouldn’t be concerned. and for various causes.
Gerrard’s abilities have already been demonstrated. Yes, he and the Rangers did win the league. But in more than three years at Ibrox, that was his only championship.
Recently, Lampard has performed admirably. However, we have also witnessed him fail at elite clubs. Furthermore, there is no reason to think Dyche could perform under these conditions.
