Kevin Danso Asked to Give Message to Arsenal After Tottenham’s Europa League Triumph

When asked if he had a message for Arsenal after his team’s victory in the 2025 Europa League final on Wednesday night, Tottenham defender Kevin Danso responded well. Ange Postecoglou’s team achieved a historic victory at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, defeating Manchester United 1-0 thanks to a tenacious goal from Brennan Johnson in the first half.

The outcome was Tottenham’s first title on foreign territory since winning the UEFA Cup in 1984 and ended their 17-year trophy drought. Postecoglou’s audacious pledge to win a trophy in his second season at the club was also fulfilled by the win, and he now has more major awards than Mikel Arteta in less than half the time.

This, of course, led to parallels between the two rivals from north London. Spurs, who are frequently blamed for failing on important moments, finally dispelled that myth with a strong performance in the middle of the week. Even though the victory surely gives Tottenham supporters more reason to boast, Danso opted to respond elegantly in his post-match interview rather than inflaming the rivalry with Arsenal.

Kevin Danso’s Brilliant Interview After Europa League Win

The Austrian international couldn’t contain his pride

Danso wasn’t going to allow his post-match interview eclipse Tottenham’s moment of glory by parodying Arsenal, even if one-upmanship is a natural element of the beautiful game. The 26-year-old was asked if he had a message for Spurs’ former rivals as they once again finished the season without a title.

He gave a thoughtful and insightful response, saying (see the entire episode below):

“To be really honest, I don’t give a damn about what they do. We recently won the Europa League, and I play for Tottenham Hotspur. I’m ecstatic about that.

The Austrian’s professionalism was so impressive that it’s difficult to believe Danso is merely on loan from Lens. However, the club will be required to pay £21 million this summer to acquire the versatile defender, who has made 14 appearances since signing during the winter transfer window.

He started his professional career at FC Augsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga at the age of 18, having been born in Austria and brought up in England. Danso joined RC Lens in France in 2019 after playing on loan at Southampton in the Premier League, where he made 128 appearances and thrived. With 24 Austrian caps, he has also made a name for himself as a mainstay in Ralf Rangnick’s national team lineup.
