After his contract was renewed, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag informed Alejandro Garnacho that he would be expected to perform to a higher standard.
The 18-year-old, who had broken into the first team at Old Trafford, inked a new five-year agreement last week.

Ten Hag was overjoyed about Garnacho’s future with the club, and the Argentine turned off interest from Real Madrid in order to prolong his experience with Manchester United.
In Ten Hag’s opinion, “first of all, I think he has the prize [contract] and it’s a prize,” meaning that he has proven his ability to reach the next level, both in terms of talent and success.
Now, it’s a fresh beginning, a fresh start, since the stakes are higher, the demands are certain to be higher, he is making progress, he is a strong character, and that is why he is currently on this level, and he accomplished it all by himself.

We anticipate more from him now that the demands are higher, but it’s fantastic that he made it. Now more work is coming to go.
United’s willingness to give youth prospects a chance is reaffirmed by Garnacho’s extension.

Academy alums Facundo Pellistri and Brandon Williams have recently been mentioned in connection with the first team, although Ten Hag has cautioned that the club’s promising young players must prove themselves worthy of the opportunity before they are considered.
According to Ten Hag, “this is the start” for Garnacho (AFP photo).

We will provide opportunities to young players, but they must prove themselves worthy, the Dutchman stated.
Just because I say “give” doesn’t mean you deserve it. They need to prove themselves on the field, put in a lot of work in training, excel for the U21s, and then wait for their chance to shine.
Now that Alejandro has gone above and above, the demands are going to be much higher. A spot in the starting eleven is up for grabs for him.
“No matter what, the rules remain the same: you must overcome obstacles and advance to the next level. We join him in his challenges, but the player must take the lead.”
