During the 2018–19 season, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an explanation as to why he “doesn’t like” a current Premier League midfielder. This explanation was made in response to an incident that occurred during 2018.
Many people were taken aback when Jurgen Klopp made the decision to step down from his position as manager of Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season. He explained his decision by saying that he was “running out of energy” in the midst of an eventful campaign.
In the Premier League match against Spurs, which was one of the final games of his nine-year reign, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Gody Gakpo, and Harvey Elliott all found the back of the net as they secured a 4-2 victory for their team.
It was during that match that Jurgen Klopp was able to get back together with James Maddison, a former midfielder for Leicester City. Maddison is a player that Klopp has previously discussed due to an incident that occurred in 2019.
While Klopp was in charge of Merseyside, the club enjoyed a lot of success. There is still a memorable opportunity that he did not take advantage of, despite the fact that he won seven major trophies, including a league title for the first time in thirty years and a sixth Champions League title.
Vincent Kompany, who was playing for Manchester City at the time, made headlines in May 2019 when he scored a goal against Leicester. The goal was a long-range strike that he scored, which effectively put the Citizens in the position of winning the league championship.
Klopp has stated that he still harbours resentment towards Maddison for allowing Kompany to have the opportunity to shoot, despite the fact that City triumphed over Liverpool to win the Premier League title by a single point. This occurred almost five years ago.
“The moment when Vincent Kompany touched the ball there, I am really happy I didn’t get a stroke in that moment as that’s how it must feel,” he said in an interview with Redmen TV in the year 2024.
“Exactly how I was lying on the sofa watching and thinking, ‘Maddison block him, close him down’ is something that I remember,” she said.
He laughed and said, “Since then, I have stopped liking Madison.” I was upset with Brendan Rodgers on that particular day because he ought to have taken him off due to the fact that he was exhausted. The first half was a really good performance for Leicester, and after that, they should have scored.
“It’s just a personal thing, I have no problem with him, but when I see him it’s… and now at the weekend I saw him again,” she said. “It’s just a personal thing.”
