Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player, has suggested that Arne Slot is superior to Arsenal cult hero Arsene Wenger since Jurgen Klopp left and Slot was immediately appointed to Anfield in the summer of 2024. Jack Wilshere, perhaps predictably, has a very different view.
Alongside Wenger, the former Borussia Dortmund player has established himself as one of the finest Premier League managers of all time since his arrival in October 2015. The standard was set by Sir Alex Ferguson, and Pep Guardiola has emulated the obstinate Scotsman. But what about the others?
Both present strong arguments for being superior to one another, however on X (previously Twitter), club legend Carragher, who played 737 games in a Liverpool uniform, implied that Klopp is still the better custodian because he won the Champions League during his tenure.
“Jurgen Klopp is superior to Arsene Wenger in my opinion. In addition to winning the Champions League, Klopp made it to three more finals during his career. Wenger advanced to a final. Wenger was brilliant at fighting against Manchester United on a smaller budget, but they were unable to match Chelsea. Klopp has spent a billion pounds competing against City, United, and Chelsea.
Wilshere, who enjoyed playing under Wenger 197 times, has already retaliated at the former defender and pundit, saying that his new assertion is “miles off it.”
Arsene Wenger’s history in the Premier League is unmatched, but Jurgen Klopp’s transformation of Liverpool is astounding. I’m sorry, Jamie, but you are completely wrong. Please stop being so judgemental and show Arsene some credit for his accomplishments over the years, including coaching the Premier League’s only unbeatable club.
