Under Julien Stephan’s leadership, Queens Park Rangers has had a mixed first three months, and the West London team is currently experiencing a bad run of results.
Following comparatively successful stints in Ligue 1 with Stade Rennais and RC Strasbourg, including a debut foray into the UEFA Champions League with the former, the Frenchman’s June first appointment at Loftus Road was greeted with optimism.
Supporters believed that if Stephan could build on the foundations set by his predecessor, Marti Cifuentes, the Hoops could finally contend for at least a play-off spot on a much more regular basis after years of stagnation in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League back in the summer of 2015.
Rangers were able to show off their full potential between September and early October after an incredibly disappointing first month in West London. A run of six games without a loss propelled them into the play-off spots.
Rangers, however, have dropped back to 16th place after an equally disparate run of one victory in the last six games, even if they are still only six points outside of the playoffs.
The 47-year-old’s injury misfortune and some controversial team selections during that run have already generated discussion about the necessary adjustments for the next transfer window.
However, following an incredibly busy summer transfer window that saw 11 additions, Louis Moir, a QPR fan commentator on Football League World, has pushed the team to consider entering the free agent market.
Former Millwall winger Duncan Watmore’s free transfer should be considered by Queens Park Rangers.

Duncan Watmore, a former Millwall winger who left The Den in the summer after his contract expired, is one of the more seasoned names in that market who is still unsigned.
Prior to spending two years in South London under Gary Rowett, Joe Edwards, Neil Harris, and Alex Neil, the 31-year-old was a seasoned Championship player who had played for Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Watmore began his final season with the Lions on fire, scoring five goals in the first six games of the previous campaign before leaving, which followed a lengthy injury hiatus.
Sheffield Wednesday then expressed interest in him in September, but the financially constrained Steel City team is still unable to sign free agents at this time.
Moir believes that a possible free transfer for the Manchester-born player would be a wise move since he has a wealth of experience to draw from and has caught his eye in games against Rangers.
“I think we’re probably going to sign a couple of players in January,” he stated to FLW. “I would be inclined to investigate the free market. A number of them are still capable of working for Championship teams.
“If he’s still available in January, I think, on a free, Duncan Watmore,” Moir stated.
Indeed, some may contend that he is past it, which is why no one has signed him. At this level, though, he might still have something to contribute.
“Whether he played for Millwall or Middlesbrough, he was always a decent enough forward and pretty quick.
“He’s not that old. “He would be a good option off the bench if he could quickly get back up to match fitness,” he stated.
“The speed at which we go with Burrell might be comparable to Duncan Watmore’s. Not as fast, of course, but a comparable choice with a unique twist.
“You would probably wait until the end of the season or a year to see how a player like them performs if they were available for free. If he still had the ability and could influence games the way he has in the past, you couldn’t go wrong with a player like that.
“I’d happily take a punt on Duncan Watmore on a free.”
Duncan Watmore would give QPR’s attacking options more experience.
Rangers would be taking little risk by signing Watmore on a short-term free transfer, which would only increase their fluid attack’s experience and adaptability.
Watmore could undoubtedly provide enough competition for players like Koki Saito, Ilias Chair, and Harvey Vale on either wing, while Kwame Poku has suffered from injuries ever since joining from Peterborough United.
However, it makes sense that some would be wary of this acquisition, especially since the winger hasn’t played in a competitive match since February 2. This means that it might take some time for him to fully recover, which would reduce the number of Championship games he could influence.
