
Immediately following the release of post-match footage on social media, Joshua Zirkzee issued a statement regarding his missed penalty kick during Manchester United’s FA Cup loss to Fulham following the match.
Man United was eliminated from the FA Cup after Fulham defeated the holders of the competition in a penalty shootout on Sunday by a score of 4-3. Fulham’s victory eliminated Man United from the competition.
The first goal was scored by Calvin Bassey just before halftime, and Bruno Fernandes tied the game with a well-executed finish in the 71st minute. He was the one who scored.
Before going to penalties, the match that was tied in the fifth round went into extra time.
Before Bernd Leno was able to save Victor Lindelof’s brilliant penalty kick, there were six stunning penalties that were converted.
After that, Antonee Robinson scored a goal, and Zirkzee made a mistake with his lines from the penalty spot, which resulted in Fulham gaining a historic victory at Old Trafford.
Immediately following the failure of his penalty kick, Zirkzee appeared to be in utter disbelief and was unable to find any solace. The video shows Fulham players attempting to console the Red Devils star.
During the time that Ruben Amorim was also coming over to console the player, the Dutchman sagged down to his haunches.
As soon as the game was over, Zirkzee took to social media to issue a statement regarding the elimination of his team from the FA Cup.
A message that read, “Sorry to let you down today, reds!” was posted on his Instagram story. My sincere gratitude for the tremendous support.”
Regarding the cup tie, Amorim expressed his opinions while making a reference to Zirkzee.
To the question of why his team is not making the most of their opportunities, he responded, “I believe that it is sometimes the quality of the players… The players Bruno, Casemiro, and Josh [Zirkzee] are making significant progress, and he is competing for every ball. It is the calibre of the players that enables us to generate a greater number of opportunities.
He continued by saying, “The objective is to win the Premier League.” I have no idea how much time it will take, but that is our objective, and regardless of what happens, we will maintain our forward momentum.
On Thursday, Manchester United will start their Europa League campaign against Real Sociedad. On Sunday, they will resume their struggling Premier League campaign at home against Arsenal. Both of these matches will take place on Thursday.
