John Eustace has resolved a big Derby County issue, but a new problem has emerged

Derby County is shown their strength once again in the Championship, with back-to-back away victories in recent days propelling them into the top six.

John Eustace has made his stamp on the club over the previous 11 months, and with his second transfer window in charge of the East Midlands team nearing its end, the Pride Park squad appears to be much healthier than it was this time last year.

Derby has strong team morale, and those on the pitch have gelled exceptionally well, helping the club to become one of the best in the division in one area. However, there is a new issue that Eustace must resolve fast in DE24.

Derby County’s away form this season has been outstanding!

The Rams’ 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic on Tuesday evening was almost flawless, with Matt Clarke’s red card the only blemish on a fantastic win at The Valley, with Bobby Clark’s brilliant finish securing all three points.

It came just days after Patrick Agyemang’s fantastic header at Preston secured the points for Derby in what was perhaps their best performance of the season.

In reality, the Rams’ road performance has resulted in a more-than-respectable 41 points from 28 games, with 24 of those coming away from Pride Park. League leaders Coventry City do not have the same away record as Eustace’s team, while promotion-chasing Hull City have also collected 24 points.

Derby had only won once away from home last season before Eustace arrived, but they went on to win three of their last seven to avoid relegation to League One. They have already scored six more points away this season than they did last season, and they still have nine games left.

Only four teams have beaten the Rams at home, and fans will be hoping the trend continues. Fans have witnessed how important away form can be, with the club’s 13 wins in 2023/24 aiding them earn promotion to the Championship under Paul Warne.

Derby County must improve their form at Pride Park.

While there is no denying how impressive Eustace’s team has been on the road, there are doubts about why Derby cannot replicate their success at Pride Park.

Historically, the Rams have been quite good at home, serving as a safe haven. Only four teams have lost to the East Midlands outfit on their own turf this season.

Victories over Hull, Middlesbrough, QPR, and Norwich City have filled up the gaps, with Derby drawing five of their remaining ten league games at Pride Park, as well as five defeats, including one against Wrexham in their most recent home league match.

Eustace may confess that he wants to play football after soaking up pressure and catching teams on the break, but this technique has not worked at home this season, and he may need to rethink his strategy ahead of West Bromwich Albion’s visit on Friday evening.

Derby have a great record against the Baggies, and they have proven to be a bogey team for Albion over the years. With Eric Ramsay struggling since taking over at West Brom, this could be an opportunity for the Rams to improve their home form.
