Jamie Vardy made the painful decision to leave Leicester City this summer. The Englishman, who joined the Foxes in 2012, had a remarkable 13-year career with the club, making 500 games and scoring 200 goals. He helped the club win four championships, including the Premier League in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021.
Vardy remained a vital performer for Leicester in the 2024/25 season, making 36 appearances across all competitions and scoring 10 goals. However, after being relegated from the Premier League, he decided to quit the club.
Vardy, 38, has no intention of hanging up his boots and believes he still has a lot to give. This summer, he has been linked to a number of clubs, including Rangers and Wrexham. Sunderland have also been linked with his signing.
Jamie Vardy Set to Join Surprise Serie A Outfit.
Vardy has taken his time choosing a new club, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he is about to make a surprise move.
Fabrizio Romano took to X (previously Twitter) and wrote:
“Jamie Vardy to Cremonese here we come! Deal in place with Italian club until June 2026, with option for an additional season if continuing in Serie A. The agreement has been completed, and Vardy is expected to travel to Milano tonight to begin a new chapter. #LCFC legend to play in Italy.”
Last weekend, Cremonese made an excellent start to their return to Serie A. They were assigned an exceedingly difficult opening day tie away to AC Milan, but they managed to pull off a stunning 2-1 triumph. Vardy’s signing might provide another significant help as they seek to avoid relegation to Italy’s second flight.
Vardy will become the club’s first English player, and only the second from the United Kingdom, following Jack Hendry. Henry, a Scottish defender, made six appearances on loan for the club in 2022/23.
Rio Ferdinand dismissed talk of a Manchester United move.
There had been speculations that Manchester United should recruit Vardy as a reserve striker. However, Rio Ferdinand rejected that notion. On his Rio Presents YouTube channel, the United great stated:
“As much as I like Jamie Vardy and admire everything he’s done in the game, he’s not what Man United need right now. He’s just gone too far over the hill to have a significant impact on the squad.
“You can’t bring someone in solely to influence the changing room. He’s not going to want to come there and simply sit down and relax. He wants to play football since that is the type of person he is. As much experience as he has, the timing is simply not appropriate.
“I can’t believe he hasn’t signed with Wrexham. Right now, I believe Vardy’s decision to move here [to Manchester United] would be more detrimental to him than beneficial to us.”
