Jamie Redknapp Apologises to Ex-Tottenham Chairman Lord Sugar For Comments on Sky

Jamie Redknapp apologised live on Sky Sports after claiming that former Tottenham Hotspur owner Lord Alan Sugar left the north Londoners in a “complete mess” when he left. The Apprentice star, who was not well-liked by fans, threatened to sue the midfielder-turned-pundit in a series of social media posts.

After serving as chairman and a co-owner from 1991 to 2001, Lord Sugar surrendered his controlling interest to ENIC. His 16-year affiliation with the club ended when he sold his investment to ENIC in two phases in 2000 and 2007.

The self-made billionaire still keeps an eye on Spurs’ daily activities, even though it has been a while since he was involved. This was demonstrated when he responded to Redknapp’s comments, in which the former midfielder highlighted the sharp contrasts between Lord Sugar’s and Daniel Levy’s respective tenures at the top of the club.

Redknapp apologises to Lord Sugar for making a jab about ownership.

Following Levy’s nearly 25-year tenure, Tottenham announced at the beginning of September that the 63-year-old had left the team with immediate effect. Redknapp and Gianfranco Zola used Sky Sports’ coverage of West Ham United’s Premier League match against Spurs to reiterate that Levy had left the team in a “really good way.”

However, he attacked Lord Sugar first before he could commend Levy. He continued: “You think back to how Alan Sugar left the club, it was a complete mess – Daniel Levy has left this club in a really good way and Vinai will know that and the people in charge now can look at this club and really believe that this can go forward.”

The Apprentice figurehead retaliated on X (previously Twitter) after Redknapp’s harsh evaluation of the conclusion of his previous tenure: “Jamie Redknapp is a double barrel idiot.” He speaks incoherently. He claimed that Alan Sugar left Spurs in a terrible mess after David Levy took ownership. On Monday, he and Sky will hear from my solicitors.

The 52-year-old Redknapp, who made 49 appearances for Spurs between 2002 and 2005, stated, “He also put significant money into the team and facilities,” “I apologise to Lord Sugar and his family for any misunderstanding and for any distress caused, and am happy to set the record straight.”

Lord Sugar then went back to X in an attempt to put an end to their incessant back and forth. “Redknapp has withdrawn this untrue accusation and issued a complete apology during tonight’s Bournemouth vs. Fulham coverage on Sky. Additionally, a £10,000 payment has been given to Great Ormond Street Hospital as an additional act of apology,” he stated.
