As a result of Liverpool’s loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, Jamie Carragher has urged the club to go out and make two summer signings.
The former defender, who played for Liverpool between the years 1996 and 2013, revealed a brutally honest assessment of the team’s lacklustre performance on Sunday. He had 737 appearances for Liverpool during that time period.
The Reds have had a season to remember, holding a commanding lead in the race for the Premier League title with nine games remaining. They are currently 12 points ahead of their opponents.
This past week, on the other hand, was a complete and utter failure.
In the final of the Carabao Cup, Arne Slot’s team was defeated by Newcastle by a score of 2-1. This came just a few days after they were eliminated from the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
At Wembley, Liverpool was dominated for large stretches of the game, and goals scored by Dan Burn and Alexander Isak sealed a historic victory for the Magpies. Federico Chiesa was able to score a goal in stoppage time, but Liverpool was unable to reverse the trend.
During his appearance as a pundit on Sky Sports, the no-nonsense Carragher provided an explanation as to why he “felt sorry” for Mohamed Salah, who demonstrated a great deal of difficulty throughout the game on Sunday.
When asked about Liverpool’s performance in the cup final, Carragher stated on Sky Sports that it was “probably one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Liverpool.” However, despite the fact that they have given so much this season, they have only lost one league game. Despite the fact that it is difficult to be overly critical, it has shed light on areas in which Liverpool still has room for improvement.
“I believe that the lack of pace in the attack is very noticeable. As for Mo Salah, I can’t help but feel a degree of sympathy for him. He was subjected to some criticism following the two matches that he played for Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the fact that he played against Mendes, who is widely considered to be the best left-back in the world, he did not exhibit a great deal of performance today.
Carragher went on to blame Salah’s teammates and even suggested that Liverpool should try to acquire two new attackers during the summer transfer window. He did this by pointing the finger at Salah’s teammates.
In addition, Carragher continued, “He does not receive assistance from the other attackers.” The situation is not the same as it was when Jurgen Klopp was in charge, when Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino could save them from financial difficulties. Although Liverpool’s other attackers are good players, they are not great players. Liverpool has a number of good players.
According to Mo Salah, “They have relied on him (Salah) too much, so I don’t want to see too much criticism of him over the course of this past week.” What has been brought to light is the fact that Liverpool needs to go out and purchase two attackers. These players should not be considered for inclusion in the squad, but they could potentially play alongside Mo Salah in the upcoming season.
He continued by saying, “I’ve been excited thinking that it looks like Liverpool are going to win the league, and there is still a lot to improve – and I think they will in the summer.”
What are your thoughts on his viewpoints? Should Liverpool go out and make a purchase of two attackers so that they can play alongside Salah in the upcoming season? Leave a comment below and let us know.
