Jamie Carragher Didn’t Regret Clash With YouTuber Joe Weller

Jamie Carragher, a defender noted for his intense commitment and combative style of play, took no prisoners. Throughout his time at Liverpool and with England, he was never hesitant to fight physical and mental battles, giving strikers a difficult ride. Carragher thrived on conflict, whether it was punishing tackles or verbal sparring, and he maintained his enthusiasm even in charity matches.

As a popular Sky and CBS Sports analyst after retirement, he brings the same passion and frank honesty to his analysis. Carragher’s legacy is based on his unwavering will to compete, defend, and give his all for the team. Despite the fact that his playing days are over, the 47-year-old has continued to demonstrate his no-nonsense attitude on the field.

The former defender has appeared in a number of charity matches and testimonies over the years, including Michael Carrick’s, in which he humorously chased down and eliminated his companion in crime, Gary Neville. While it was all fun and games for the begrudging buddies, things got a little more ruthless when Carragher competed in the Wembley Cup in 2016. The match included two teams of YouTubers and football icons facing off in a glorified demonstration. However, someone failed to inform Carragher of this, and he regarded it as if it were Istanbul all over again.

Carragher Took Out YouTuber With Horror Tackle in Charity Match

Joe Weller was on the receiving end of Carragher’s studs in a gruesome tackle

During procedures at the national stadium, Carragher and YouTuber Joe Weller developed a rivalry that erupted in the 56th minute of play. When the two fought for the ball, Carragher planted his studs in Weller’s leg before calling his opponent a “stupid little p***k” right away.

Replays of the event revealed that Carragher, one of the best defenders in Premier League history, was not even jumping for the aerial ball as the challenge was committed, instead focusing solely on Weller as he slashed his opponent’s thigh with his studs. This was followed by a second incident in which the defender swung an arm at Weller’s close friend Theo Baker when he attempted to defeat Carragher with a McGeady spin, which was popularized by Republic of Ireland star Aiden McGeady.

In typical social media fashion, the YouTuber responded to the incident in a video days later, calling out the former Liverpool player, saying: “When he fouled us, he didn’t even apologize or show an ounce of dignity. What are you doing now? “Just grow up.”

Carragher’s Response to Weller’s Call Out

The defender revealed what he would do differently if he was in the same situation again

In true Carragher manner, the Merseysider showed no remorse for his actions at Wembley, as evidenced by his response when asked about the incident with Weller during a Q&A for Soccer AM’s YouTube channel. Laura Woods of TNT Sports confronted Carragher about the event, and the former England international said he would do it again if given the chance:

“He was just aggravating me during the game. I’d never heard of him, but he was reportedly a big star on YouTube, and he was acting like one on the pitch, so I slapped him. I enjoyed devouring Joe Weller in that game, and if the opportunity arises, I will do so again.

What may keep Carragher awake at night is how another YouTuber embarrassed both him and Robert Pirès with an astounding feat of skill. ChrisMD (Chris Dixon), a well-known content creator, was also on the opposing team that afternoon and took full advantage of his opportunity to shine.

With the ball bouncing towards him on the touchline and renowned Arsenal winger Pires closing in, Dixon expertly chipped the ball over the Frenchman before doing the same to the onrushing Carragher with his second touch. In the years since, the YouTuber said that Carragher was not really happy with the fantastic piece of talent, calling him a ‘f****** little c***’ afterward. Charming.
