Ivan Toney: Tottenham Hotspur’s opening bid for Man United target rejected despite agreeing personal terms

Ivan Toney, a striker for Manchester United, was apparently the subject of a bid rejection from Brentford to Tottenham Hotspur.

This summer, United is keen to add players to strengthen their number nine position on the pitch. Rasmus Hojlund can’t be counted on to lead the team’s line every week, even if he showed a lot of potential in the 2023–24 campaign.

In addition, United needs strong depth up front, particularly with Anthony Martial scheduled to leave Old Trafford officially at the end of this month.

In addition to Toney, goal scorers like Matheus Cunha (Wolves), Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon), Joshua Zirkzee (Bologna), and Benjamin Sesko—who recently inked a new contract to prolong his stay with Bundesliga team RB Leipzig—have all been connected to United.

Toney scored four goals and provided two assists in the 17 Premier League games he participated in the previous season after serving an eight-month betting ban for violating the Football Association’s gambling laws. Erik ten Hag is reportedly a big fan of the Brentford talisman, and a prior report that The Peoples Person reported stated that the Bees want to part ways with him for £60 million, with United refusing to pay more than £40 million for a player who is nearing the end of his contract. However, Toney is not the only team interested in joining them; Tottenham Hotspur is also keen on acquiring him, and according to Football Transfers, the Lily Whites made an offer for him.

According to the source, “FootballTransfers can reveal that Tottenham had a bid turned down by Brentford for Ivan Toney, who has already verbally agreed personal terms with the side.”

“Sources say that although the England international took a wage offer, the West London club turned down Spurs’ £40 million offer. Although Brentford is requesting £65 million, it is believed that a £55 million bid would close the transaction.

“We’ve been informed that Spurs have the resources to pay more than any rival team for the Bees striker. To improve their prospects of playing in the Champions League the next season, the Lilywhites intend to add five new players, therefore managing the available cash will be crucial.

Tottenham is competing with United for more players than only Toney.

Talks between Tottenham and Eze’s representatives are scheduled to take place at the end of this week, according to Football Transfers. Ange Postecoglou’s team is also in the running for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze.
