A FIFA precedent has already been established.
Italy could face a FIFA sanction after booing the Israeli national anthem before their World Cup qualifier.
Italy won 3-0 on Tuesday night, effectively ending Israel’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
To qualify for the play-offs, Israel would need to win both of their games while Italy loses both of theirs, as well as a 15-goal difference swing.
One of Italy’s games is away to Moldova, who have only one point from six games and lost 11-1 to Norway last month.
Before their triumph, Italian fans booed the Israeli national anthem, which was played beforehand.
Over 70,000 individuals are said to have been murdered by Israeli forces in Gaza since the start of Israel’s assault on Palestine in October 2023.
Last week, Israel and Hamas, the group that controls the Gaza Strip, agreed to a cease-fire that included the exchange of captives.

The battle began after Hamas attacked Israel, killing over 1,200 people and kidnapping around 250 captives.
A United Nations commission has since deemed Israel’s onslaught on Gaza a genocide, and Gaza meets all three UN famine criteria.
In August, the Italian Football Coaches Association (AIAC) issued an open letter demanding for Israel’s temporary suspension from international football.
Scotland was fined £8,024 in November 2021 after some of their fans booed the Israel national song prior to their 3-2 victory at Hampden Park.
They were also fined for displaying a ‘inappropriate flag’, which was thought to be a Palestinian flag.
Four years later, it’s unclear whether Italy will face a similar fine.
FIFA recognised the following violation of their rules in Scotland’s case: “Order and security at matches (disturbance during national anthems, use of objects – flag – to transmit a message that is inappropriate for a sports event).”
