Despite the possibility of their worst league season in thirty-four years, Gary Neville is confident Manchester United will “get it right”.

United, who qualified out of Europe before Christmas, has lost a Premier League record 13 games this season and currently sits eighth in the standings.

On May 25, an FA Cup final involving only Manchester offers the opportunity to win trophies from the season in what may be manager Erik ten Hag’s final match.

Although United has only won four trophies since winning their most recent championship in 2013, Neville suggested with optimism that winning the FA Cup could herald a similar turning point to when United won it in 1990.

That was the catalyst for United’s eventual domination of English football, and it was Sir Alex Ferguson’s first trophy with the team in a season in which they finished in 13th place.

“Manchester United will begin to win again as sure as the sun will rise,” Neville declared. It is true. I’m not sure when that is. I am aware that these things happen in cycles, so there can’t be any assurance.

“I was patient and spent my entire childhood watching Arsenal, Liverpool, and Everton win division one titles and trophies. Manchester United didn’t win a league title until I was eighteen and nineteen years old. After that, we won numerous league titles, but we haven’t won one in eleven years.

“I am fully aware that Manchester United will win trophies during my lifetime, hopefully, but they will also win trophies again. Like Liverpool and Arsenal, we will also get it right. These fantastic clubs are impossible to contain. I apologize, but they’re too big, too well-established, have a stellar track record, and experience financial difficulties.

“Look, I’m hoping that in three or four weeks, this FA Cup final against Manchester City—we all know how good City is—will take place. It’s such a tough game, but who knows where that could lead if they can just overcome the odds.

“You know, Sir Alex Ferguson won the FA Cup in 1989–1990, which gave him and the team confidence. After that, they went on to win the League Cup, the Cup Winners’ Cup, and finally the league championship.

It was constructed step by step, block by block, and that might happen soon. Or it might not happen for a few years. But Manchester United will triumph once more. It is unavoidable.
