Ipswich Town transfer failure: Kieran McKenna’s role revealed

One reason they were unable to sign a number nine was that Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna was extremely selective when it came to the strikers that the recruitment staff presented him with.

The Tractor Boys signed Anis Mehmeti and Dan Neil during the January transfer window; with a top-two finish in their sights this season, the window was always going to be pivotal.

Although they appear to be excellent acquisitions, several supporters were disappointed that the team did not acquire a new striker.

New information on Ipswich Town’s pursuit of a striker in January has surfaced.
Since their summer loan deals, Ivan Azon and Chuba Akpom have had little success for the club, scoring just twice between them so far this season.

Ipswich was understandably looking to add to their attacking options, as George Hirst has played the most minutes but has only scored six goals.

These three players will serve as McKenna’s primary options until the season concludes, as the team was unable to finalize deals for any targets despite several ties.

In addition, the East Anglian Daily Times has published additional information regarding the hunt for a striker, revealing that McKenna was the obstacle in specific instances.

They detail how Mick Court, Ipswich’s head of recruiting, presented the manager with a “numerous” names, but only a “small number” were considered an improvement over the players the club already had. As a result, none of those players were signed.

Additionally, they claim that Ipswich knew they wouldn’t be signing a new striker before to Monday’s deadline.

Only signings that strengthen Ipswich’s roster should be approved by Kieran McKenna.

If Ipswich’s present attacking options aren’t cutting it, then maybe they needed to get a new striker.

The truth, though, is that McKenna is on the right track. You shouldn’t sign a player just because; it’s excellent that the recruiting staff was presenting potential additions to the manager for his consideration, but ultimately, the manager has to make the final decision.

Akpom and Hirst are experienced at this level, so McKenna needs to figure out how to motivate them to perform in the remaining months of the season, even though they are currently not performing well.

Ipswich does have three players capable of thriving at this level; Azon has also shown glimpses of potential.

Fans may question McKenna’s decision if Ipswich do not reenter the Premier League. However, many experts think McKenna has the league’s best team, so they must focus on utilizing their current group to catch up to Coventry and Middlesbrough.
