When the Inter Milan team returned to Italy on Sunday afternoon, they received the exact opposite of a hero’s welcome. After a trip to Munich’s Allianz Arena ended in the largest Champions League final loss in the history of the sport, Simone Inzaghi’s team was already feeling down.
To exacerbate the situation, a week prior, Milan’s blue and black half had likewise finished one point behind Napoli on the last day, barely missing out on the Serie A championship. However, the Inter supporters obviously don’t settle for close calls, and the team’s farewell was harsh.
Inter Milan’s Brutal Homecoming After Champions League Loss
Just one supporter turned up to greet them home
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter returned to Italy on Sunday and arrived at Milan’s Malpensa airport to be greeted by just one fan, Marco. “I am the lone fool. Marco allegedly stated, although he insisted that the team should be commended. In the meantime, AC Milan supporters added insult to injury by erecting banners on the freeway that said (see below):
“Welcome Back European champions.”
Additionally, it’s still unknown if Inzaghi, who has been Inter’s manager since 2021, would be granted another season to demonstrate his abilities and lead the San Siro to further glory. He remarked, “We’ll see in the next few days with the club,” following the loss.
“There is too much disappointment to attempt to think after a final like this—the second one lost in three years. My club, which is always there and was with us tonight, will have time to discuss it in a calm manner.
However, Giuseppe Marotta, the club president, emphasized that the outcome would not affect the coach’s future. “We are meeting with the coach because this club is not used to letting a manager go into the final year of his contract,” Marotta said.
“No revolution is happening right now. I want to reiterate that we are extremely proud and honored to continue working with him, and we will meet to hear his thoughts.
