In a passionate press conference this afternoon, England captain Harry Kane addressed the backlash following the exclusion of a Real Madrid player from the national team.

Kane vehemently backed the coach’s decision, particularly in the face of criticism from Madrid fans.

“As captain of this team, I will not tolerate fans, particularly those from Madrid, mocking our coach for a call that was completely justified,” Kane added, first declining to name the player in question.

Kane mentioned England’s terrible performance in their recent loss to Senegal, hinting that the discarded Madrid player was primarily to blame.

“We all witnessed his awful performance against Senegal. It was more than just an awful day; it was a performance that let the team down and cost us the game. “Until he improves and proves himself, he does not belong on this team,” Kane stated.

Though he avoided naming the player outright, insiders close to the team revealed Kane was referring to Real Madrid winger Marcus Edwards. Edwards reportedly made multiple mistakes against Senegal, including lost passes, weak challenges, and a defensive breakdown that resulted in Senegal’s winning goal.

Despite the harsh criticism, Kane insisted that he was not targeting Edwards personally.

“He deserves neither abuse nor shame. He has talent and promise, but nothing comes easy at this level. He must put in more effort to regain his position. When he does, I’ll be one of the first to embrace him—but for the time being, this decision is correct,” Kane said.

Kane’s words have elicited various reactions. While many fans value his honest leadership, others, particularly Real Madrid supporters, believe Edwards is unfairly punished for the team’s collective problems.

The England coach has yet to reply publicly, but with Kane taking a firm stand, it’s clear that the team supports the management’s decisions as they prepare for the next matchups.
