Paul Scholes is never hesitant about expressing his thoughts on Manchester United’s troubles, and he was unimpressed with one United player during the match against Chelsea.
With Ruben Amorim appointed as United’s next manager, players are eager to impress the new coaching staff.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is trying everything he can to get the team going, and as expected, the Dutchman wants to have an impact on the forwards.
Of course, United scored five goals against Leicester in Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge, but chances and goals came at a slower pace against Chelsea.
Naturally, the best chance of the first 45 minutes fell to Marcus Rashford, as United had hoped.
Rashford, on the other hand, blasted his shot over the crossbar despite having plenty of room. According to Paul Scholes, Rashford was attempting to show off a bit.
Paul Scholes blasts Marcus Rashford for his wasted chance during Manchester United’s match against Chelsea
Commenting on Rashford’s chance for Premier League Productions, United legend Scholes was quick to critique the England forward, claiming it was a much simpler opportunity than he made it appear.
“I expect him to perform better. I believe he is attempting to make the goal look better by shooting high into the roof of the net. It’s a basic side-foot volley from seven yards.
“All he has to do is keep it down,” Scholes explained.
Rashford has one final chance under Ruben Amorim.
With a new manager comes new opportunities, and Marcus Rashford will be looking for the same under Ruben Amorim.
Indeed, Rashford has been supported to improve under Amorim, and if he can get his act together and start scoring goals, United will have a quality striker on their hands.
However, this is the type of chance he should be putting away, and as Scholes points out, there appeared to be an aspect of him making it appear more significant than necessary.
The top strikers in the world simply find a way to put the ball in the net in crucial moments.
Rashford, then, must return to doing exactly that if he and United are to compete again.
