A growing number of people are concerned that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney might be “compelled” to sell their property in Wrexham.
In February of 2021, Reynolds, who was 48 years old at the time, and McElhenney, who was 47 years old, successfully completed their takeover of Wrexham. At the time, the Red Dragons were competing in the National League, which is the fifth tier of English football.
Since then, they have been in charge of a pair of promotions in a row, and they will once again be competing for promotion this season. The Welsh team is currently in third place in League One after 37 matches.
The duo is said to have a combined net worth of $400 million (£309 million), which has been beneficial to the cause of the club.
There have been a number of players who have previously played in the Premier League joining the team in recent years. James McClean, Matty James, Jay Rodriguez, and Steven Fletcher are just some of the players who have played for Phil Parkinson’s squad.
They could reach the top flight by the year 2026 if they continue to progress along the same trajectory; however, Darren Bent, a former England international, has issued a warning to the owners about the financial responsibilities that come with running a Premier League club.
“I am aware that they are worth a lot of money, like 400 million, but at what point does that become insufficient?” Telling talkSPORT was Bent.
To put it another way, 400 million dollars is a ridiculous amount of money, and it is the equivalent of stupid wealth. There is a possibility that they could still make 400 million dollars if they make it to the Championship, but in the Premier League, that amount is practically nothing. I really hope that they don’t sell the club after they have worked so hard to get them to the top position because I don’t know how they will be able to make it without them.
The co-owner of Wrexham, Reynolds, has already expressed his thoughts on the possibility of the Red Dragons playing in the Premier League over the course of the next ten years, despite the fact that Wrexham will definitely be eager to keep their feet on the ground.
“I mean, ten years from now… we would be idiots to not want to see this club in the Premier League, but to also be unique in that everything about the place has stayed true to what it originally was – I mean, that’s kind of the perfect scenario,” said Reynolds when he was speaking on Men in Blazers. “I mean, that’s kind of the perfect scenario.”
I remember Rob saying something early on, and he said something along the lines of, ‘Of course we want to go to the Premier League.’ It eventually made its way into my cells… “Hell yes, we want that; there is no reason why we wouldn’t want that.” In addition, Reynolds stated.
“Only a fool would not want that? And we are able to see it, if you know what I mean?
According to Bloomberg, Reynolds and McElhenney purchased the club for approximately two million pounds, but it is now worth one hundred million pounds.
