In brief
After losing in the Europa League final, Manchester United has not ruled out selling any members of their team before the summer.
Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes could command high prices, but Jadon Sancho’s future is unclear.
The performances of Antony and Marcus Rashford while on loan could result in successful summer sales.
After their Europa League final loss, Manchester United listed every current player for sale this summer, taking the idea of a fire sale to a whole new level. At San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, the Red Devils lost 1-0 to Premier League rivals Tottenham on Wednesday night. As a result, Ruben Amorim’s team will not be able to participate in any European competitions in 2025–2026.
This collapse comes right after what can only be called United’s Premier League annus horribilis: the team is now in 16th position, the lowest finish they have ever had, and they could drop to 17th with one game left. Relegation is an uncomfortably real possibility throughout the season, and the statistics are damning: fewest wins, most losses, and a points total that hasn’t yet reached the bog-standard 40-point safety mark.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS executives have pushed the reset button with the vigour of a furious Football Manager player, which is understandable. However, as Old Trafford now hosts what appears to be a charity auction rather than a transfer market, the issue is: how much money could the team make from a squad-wide clearance? To discover out, we used Transfermarkt to help us crunch the figures.
Defenders and Goalkeepers
All an old defensive unit has to give is spare change.
It’s very doubtful that Ratcliffe and company will be using the defensive unit to balance the books if they intend to raise significant money in the upcoming months. Most of United’s goalkeepers and defenders are long past their prime and are unlikely to bring in more than a little cash, even if there is undoubtedly a lot of deadwood that needs to be moved.
None of them have a market value above £13 million, while Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and former club captain Harry Maguire are all over 30. Luke Shaw and Andre Onana, meanwhile, are also edging closer to that dreadful milestone. It’s not completely crazy to think that United could have to pay a rival just to take one of them off their hands, anyway, given Onana’s well-publicized errors and Shaw’s ongoing struggles with injuries.
Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui, and Matthijs de Ligt are summer additions to United’s backline, and Lisandro Martinez is valued at slightly under £38 million. Instead of making room for new players, those four, who have consistently been a part of Amorim’s back five, may be asked to lay the groundwork for a future reconstruction.

Bruno Fernandes could attract a British transfer record bid of £106m+
Current captain Bruno Fernandes would undoubtedly be the only player exempt from leaving this summer. He was the driving force behind their run to another big final this time around, and he generated more opportunities than any other Premier League player last season.
Even though he ranks among United’s highest-ever assist providers, United may choose to cash in on him while they can, especially since he is now 30 and Saudi Pro League clubs like Al-Hilal are considering breaking the British transfer record to acquire his services, which is currently the £106 million Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez.
However, he is not the only midfield player who could contribute to providing the INEOS hierarchy with a much-needed new war chest. Since Kobbie Mainoo realised early on that he would be better off elsewhere if he wanted to become the elite player everyone expected him to be, his upcoming sale might bring considerably more than his present market value of £46 million.
Christian Eriksen’s departure before his contract expires this summer will help ease some of the pay burden, and even if Casemiro is unlikely to make a sizable transfer fee bid, his sale would relieve United of over half a million dollars in weekly expenses. Mason Mount’s market value is only £23 million, two years after the club spent £55 million to acquire him from Chelsea, thus selling him for a profit is entirely out of the question elsewhere.

The Forwards
Sales of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony are inevitable.
Even though Marcus Rashford and Antony’s increased playing time and exaggerated creative output during their loan stints at Aston Villa and Real Betis in the second part of the season underscore Manchester United’s inability to maximise their attacking capabilities, it might ultimately pay off. With each goal and assist, their growing stock might fetch a healthy amount when the summer transfer market opens.
For Jadon Sancho, the same cannot be true. The once-certain move to Chelsea now seems to be fading away, as the Blues may decide to opt for a £5 million escape clause rather than sign a long-term contract due to recent lacklustre performances. United is then forced to start over and look for a new buyer.
Rasmus Hojlund, meanwhile, has been without a goal for 27 Premier League games, which is an extremely long goal drought. He has a disconcerting total of 10 goals in 51 games throughout all competitions. Luckily for United, his valuation is still slightly less than £40 million.
Alejandro Garnacho has the same value. Even though the Argentine was one of United’s most creative sparks, he was overlooked in the Europa League final, playing only 19 minutes. Both Garnacho and his brother, who also serves as his agent, have expressed their indignation over the omission. He might be considering leaving as tensions rise, which would make it easier for United’s management to decide who to sell this summer.
