Because of his outstanding performance this season, I have given the board the order to give him a tantalising deal. Erik Ten Hag reveals which United player, after an outstanding season thus far, deserves a new contract. Not Garnacho, Not Onana
A talented player who has pleased club officials this season is set to get a new contract offer from Manchester United.
Over the weekend, United overcame newly promoted Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium to effectively restart their season.
The outcome follows United’s one-win start heading into the season’s first international break, with losses to both Brighton and long-standing rivals Liverpool.
Though they have had a mixed start to the season, one player has stood out in each of the first four games, and United is apparently ready to extend their contract to him in order to recognise his outstanding play.
Amad Diallo is expected to receive a new contract offer from United in the upcoming months, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
Although Diallo’s contract is about to expire, United has the option to extend it for an extra year, so they are free to negotiate at their own pace.
But, they are trying to lock down the 22-year-old as quickly as possible because they have been pleased with his performances in four of United’s five games this season.
In order to keep the young player from negotiating a pre-contract with another club during the January transfer window, United will initiate the extension if terms of a new deal cannot be reached with Diallo and his representation before the end of this year.
Since Diallo has officially stated that he would like to stay with the Manchester club longer and is considering spending his entire career there, the negotiations over the deal shouldn’t be too difficult.
Upon being questioned about inking a new contract in the off-season, he responded, “Yes, why not? This is my happy place. Because I smile and have a positive spirit, I believe that everyone is delighted with me. Why don’t I live here forever?”
In October 2020, United acquired the Ivorian football player for a reported sum of up to £37 million from Atalanta, a Serie A team.
He has since made 26 appearances with the Red Devils, contributing three assists and four goals.
