“He has now become total liability in Tottenham and this is the right time to get rid of him”-Ange could axe Spurs star who’s earning £30k-p/w more than Van de Ven

Angele claims that the Spurs player, who makes £30,000 more a week than Van van Ven, should be fired because he has turned into a complete liability for the team.
Spurs have been among the Premier League’s most active transfer markets since Daniel Levy brought Ange Postecoglou from Celtic’s managerial position. There’s no sign that come summertime, this trend will stop.

Spurs are five points behind Aston Villa in the top four after 26 games, in fifth place. They have the game in hand, but they have to get even better to catch up to the other teams fighting for a European spot as well as the three winning teams in the division.
According to Sofascore, the 5’11” defender hasn’t exactly been slow; in 11 Premier League starts, he has completed 92% of his passes, averaged 2.1 clearances and 1.3 tackles per game, and won 66% of his contested duels.

In Van van Ven’s absence in November and December, Davies was dependable and strong, but because of his 2025 contract, the club’s executives will need to consider offloading him at the end of the current campaign.

Ben Davies’s salary in relation to the Spurs team
Since joining the Premier League for £43 million in August from Wolfsburg, Van de Ven has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league. However, now that he is earning more than him, Postecoglou ought to let him go and sign a young player who more closely aligns with his philosophy.
Van de Ven, along with Romero, has been an asset to the backline because of his exceptional agility, keen match sense, and natural defensive incisiveness.
However, Tottenham can only get stronger by selling, and players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will probably be among the top targets to go. Ben Davies is another stalwart who may have to hang up his Lilywhites hat, which is a cause for some sadness.

The season statistics for Ben Davies
Davies joined Spurs in 2014 after moving from Swansea City, and he has since appeared in 329 games. The 30-year-old may wish to look for better opportunities because he is unlikely to establish himself as a consistent starter under Postecoglou’s leadership.

Due to injuries to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, the natural left back was benched for the majority of the current season. However, he did fairly well when thrust into a central defensive role shortly before Christmas.

To highlight his distinct skill set, FBref shows that the Dutch international ranks in the top three percent of center backs in Europe’s top five leagues for pass completion, the top two percent for successful takeaways, and the top seventeen percent for progressive carries per ninety minutes.

Although Davies has improved significantly so far this season, he played a major role in the terrible defensive effort of the previous campaign. He started 26 Premier League games for a team that allowed 63 goals to be scored, more than any other club in the league outside of the promoted and relegated teams. Commentators such as Gabby Agbonlahor expressed disapproval of this performance.

Agbonlahor said, “I saw him play recently, and he was terrible with the ball.” Despite being a longstanding member of the team, he hasn’t yet turned in consistently excellent performances. There should be a major overhaul of that defense. Davies is getting old, so I believe they should add a left back and two center backs.
Given his contract status and high salary, Davies might be best served by leaving this summer; while he has been a reliable squad member this season, he is not a defensive mainstay for Tottenham.

Journalist Mitch Fretton referred to Van van Ven as a “elite baller” following his incredible display against Crystal Palace, stating that it seemed the rookie was here to stay.
