Gary Neville’s Comments About Mohamed Salah & Liverpool in 2019 Re-Emerge

The Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has signed a new deal with Liverpool that will keep him at Anfield until 2027. The fact that the Reds’ talisman is remaining despite rumours about his future is bad news for all Premier League and Champions League clubs.

Gary Neville, a legend of Manchester United, will not be happy to hear the news. During his tenure on Merseyside, the former defender-turned-pundit has witnessed Salah score 16 goals against the Red Devils, including three this season.

Neville has never held back when expressing his opinions, and although he has been gushing over Salah’s skills, the former England right-back did believe his time at Liverpool would have been far shorter than it has been. After Salah’s deal was announced, a prediction he made in August 2019 regarding the Egyptian King reappeared online, but it has aged horribly.

Gary Neville: ‘Salah’s Going to Leave’

Things haven’t quite turned out that way

Ahead of the 2019–20 season, Neville made the bold assertion that Salah would be departing Liverpool within the next year during an appearance on Sky Bet’s “Big Season Debate.” After more than five years, the 32-year-old recently inked a contract that will extend his tenure at Anfield to ten years.

Neville and co-host Jamie Carragher went on a tirade on the future of Liverpool and Manchester United. In retrospect, some of his remarks have not held up well, but the worst was when he asserted:

“Salah’s going to leave in the next 12 months, I can see it already.”

Neville chose to reiterate what Liverpool legend Carragher had said, saying, “He [Carragher] knows, he won’t say it.” You can smell it, feel it, and know it, and I can see it.”

Neville’s Manchester United Prediction Backfires

‘Manchester United will win again’

One of the former Old Trafford mainstay’s predictions, which now seem incredibly foolish, was that his former employers will return to the top of the sport. Additionally, he asserted that this would occur prior to Liverpool winning a league championship, saying:

“I can tell you with absolute certainty that Manchester United will triumph once more. I think they’ll likely win the league before Liverpool.

“And that’s not being disrespectful, they’ll probably win the league before Liverpool.”

The outspoken remarks were quickly disproved as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds stormed to Premier League glory in the 2019–20 season. Neville was always going to be wrong as a pundit, but he won’t want to see this clip again anytime soon. even if fans of Liverpool continue to share it online in celebration of Salah’s contract renewal.
