Only one player from the current Red Devils side would make it into Tottenham’s starting eleven, according to Gary Neville, who has ripped into Manchester United’s roster and recruitment. His harsh evaluation follows Ruben Amorim’s team’s decline to 15th place in the Premier League, where James Maddison’s game-winning goal dealt United even more setback in Sunday’s meeting between the league’s fallen titans.
The former United right-back didn’t hold back throughout the game, comparing the setup of his former team to an under-9 or under-10 game. He saw it as a scathing indictment of their tactical incoherence, as though Amorim had just distributed the shirts and let the players work it out on their own. Amorim’s record now stands at 10 wins, 2 draws, and 9 loses in all competitions after the loss in north London, which was his ninth since taking over at Old Trafford.
The fact that United has lost eight of their last 12 games is concerning because only the bottom two teams in the league have suffered more losses. Neville now thinks that the majority of the present team might be fired in the summer.
Neville Names One United Player Who Would Make Tottenham Team
In the ex-defender’s books, Bruno Fernandes is the only one worth keeping
Neville finally noted in his post-match analysis for Sky Sports that the only player who could fit in Tottenham’s starting eleven was Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes. In the video below, at around 5:10, he said:
How many United players would be in that Spurs squad if everyone was healthy? I think Bruno. Without a doubt, I would pick [Dejan] Kulusevski, but perhaps Amad [Diallo]. Every Tottenham player is better than every Man United player, with one exception. It’s just really gloomy; we’ve moved past it. Being sentimental is not what that is. That’s where Man United is.
“It’s what happens to players when they get here,” he added. We’ve witnessed athletes turn around and succeed. “They need seven or eight players to change,” Jamie Redknapp, a fellow presenter, remarked. We all believed that Ten Hag was clueless, and I have no doubt that this management shared our opinion.
“Better players must be brought in. Those are not the core members of a competitive squad. When you consider Liverpool and Arsenal City… They’re far away. They have spent a lot of money. However, it will never succeed if you hire 30-year-olds on four- or five-year contracts due to poor recruitment practices.
According to supercomputer predictions, Manchester United is headed for their lowest-ever Premier League point total at this rate. With 14 games left, Amorim’s team still needs 29 more points to reach the current low of 58 points from David Moyes’ disastrous 2013–14 campaign—an virtually impossible task considering their current play. Back-to-back games against relegation-threatened Everton and Ipswich, though, might provide them with some respite.
