A hypothesis has been proposed by Gary Neville regarding the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold taking a transfer to Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold is scheduled to leave Liverpool on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract, according to the current state of affairs as things stand.
It has been widely reported that Liverpool’s efforts to convince the full-back to remain with the club have been unsuccessful. Alexander-Arnold is rumoured to be getting closer to landing a transfer to Madrid, which is a giant in the Spanish La Liga.
During the most recent episode of Stick to Football, which was brought to you by Sky Bet, Neville, a former player for Manchester United, discussed the situation and stated that Alexander-Arnold might not be a guaranteed starter for Los Blancos.
“I said that I thought he [Trent Alexander-Arnold] needed to get more serious about his defending β I’ve said that constantly β or else it will cause him problems,” he said. “I’ve said that constantly.”
I believe that it will be a problem for him at Real Madrid because they have Federico Valverde, who is currently playing right-back, and Dani Carvajal when he is back. He is going to have some serious competition at Real Madrid. They are outstanding players, and he is going to have a difficult time competing against them.
When it comes to full-backs, Carvajal is superior to Trent because of the contributions he makes to the team. The things that Valverde is doing for them right now are absolutely incredible, and as a result, he is going to face stiff competition when he leaves.
After that, Neville continued, “Coming back to Trent, I said that he needs to get more serious about his defending, and that was proven by the fact that he couldn’t get into the England team for many years, and he gets substituted for Liverpool a lot.” Under no circumstances have I ever witnessed a right-back being substituted so frequently during crucial phases of a match.
Alexander-Arnold is not the only player who has not yet reached an agreement on new terms; Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also expected to leave the club without any further obligations during the summer.
Following that, Neville voiced his disapproval of the fact that the owners of Liverpool, FSG, had allowed their star players’ contracts to expire.
He said, “So, Liverpool, a couple of years ago around the time that VVD was going through a patch where he was teetering a little bit and Salah was there β they looked at them and thought, ‘We’ll wait with you,’ and the players are probably holding that against them now.” Salah was there at the time.
When it comes to Trent, it is inexcusable. If you are the owner of the club and you look at Trent two years ago, even if you have disruption in your sporting department, you could look at him and think, “We’ve got to sign him up, he’s one of our own.” This is true regardless of whether or not you are experiencing turbulence in the boardroom.
