When the two clubs faced off in the Premier League in December, Manchester United defeated Manchester City, and City will enter the rematch without Erling Haaland.
Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville predict a draw in Sunday’s Manchester Derby. Neville has been particularly pleased with how Ruben Amorim’s team has performed in crucial games this season, especially after Manchester United’s unexpected victory at the Etihad Stadium in December.
Along with winning the derby, Amorim guided his squad to an FA Cup triumph over Arsenal via penalty shootout. In March, United also won a 2-2 draw against league leaders Liverpool and drew with Arsenal.
For the derby, both teams are without important players. Erling Haaland, City’s leading scorer, is expected to miss the rest of the season due to injury, and Amad, who scored the game-winning goal in the rematch, is still out.
“United have done well in big games, haven’t they?” Sky Bet’s The Overlap featured Neville’s statement. “This season, United has performed admirably against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City.
After that, Neville shared his and Carragher’s predictions for the meeting. He remarked, “I think it could be a draw,” “I think 1-1 but we will say 2-2.”
The announcement that Kevin De Bruyne will go at the end of the season has affected Manchester City’s game preparations. In his pregame press conference, manager Pep Guardiola paid tribute to the Belgian playmaker, who confirmed the news on Friday.
“When Vincent (Kompany) left or Sergio (Aguero) left or David Silva, it’s a sad day,” Guardiola stated. “We still have 10 games – hopefully 11 – that we can enjoy with our fans and he will get the love and recognition that he deserves.”
“He’s part of the club,” the City manager continued when asked about De Bruyne’s future after leaving. The club has told him that he can do anything he wants for the rest of his life. He is a member of the club’s family.
